My ortho can't get attatchment to stick on

#1 Post by pompompadom »

Hiya

I have 14 attatchments. At least 9 of them have fallen off and had to be glued back on.

There is one though that just won't stay on and my orho has given up. I'm still left with a very rough surface on the tooth but he said it just won't stay on so won't bother.

He then went on to mention post course correction!!!

Firstly, why won't it stay on?
Does this mean the treatment will be longer?
If its not important, why have it at all!!!

And, how do they take these attatchments off, will it be a smooth surface again?

I'm not sure why there would be a problem unless possibly there is too much pressure on them when removing an aligner. I did loose one where most of the attachment was in the aligner bubble after I removed it. It hasn't broken off again since it was put back on four weeks ago.

When my attachments were first put on, there were problems with my teeth not being dry enough and a coating where my dentist had put on the back of my tooth to protect an exposed root. My ortho was able to pop off the ones that didn't do well. With some more drying and light roughing of the spot with the coating, the final ones have stayed on.

I had one removed recently and replaced recently as the old one was no longer tracking it aligner bubble. My ortho ground it off with a drill tool so it could be replaced. I can't say this was a good experience. To me, it was more unpleasant than debonding the brackets from my previous braces. While I'm looking forward to having these things off, I'm not looking forward to the procedure!! I think once they are ground off, the tooth can be polished to be smooth.

It sounds like something isn't quite right with how your attachments are being placed. Has your ortho offered any explanation which there have been so many problems?

As for treatment time, one of the attachments I had replaced could have had a major impact on treatment if it had not been corrected. It depends on where it is as to the impact. I would assume that all are there for a reason and if one is missing, it would impact quality of results.

Good luck with this one!!

I got an attachment off yesterday (I had 8 altogether) and it took like 5 seconds max!

I don't understand people saying it hurt because it takes such a short time and you can't feel a thing.

14 is alot!...perhaps your ortho may try attaching it at your next visit? My orthodontist said they often put on more than is necessary so I wouldn't be too worried!

Goodluck :)

Well he said that it won't stick on as the 'surface of the tooth has been compromised', and that 'he would have to shave the enamel of the tooth to stick it on next time'.

He also said its not an important tooth at the moment and that he'll try next time (5 weeks till next appointment).

My alligners are starting to feel a bit loose, I hope the treatment stays on track.

Fingers crossed.

This is what happened to mine at first. My ortho simply roughened the surface of my tooth and everything has been fine since. This attachment is on the back of my front teeth and does have impact from my lowers. Its not a normal place for an attachment, but is there to keep me from biting into my upper gums.

I hope your treatment can stay on track!!
