Finishing Invisalign treatment - 4 weeks til nighttime wear?

#1 Post by Zipp »

I put in my last set of upper invisalign trays 2 weeks ago - my lowers were done 6 weeks prior. My ortho says I need to wear them full time another 4 weeks and then I can go to night time wear. This means my uppers have only been in place six weeks before going from full-time wear to part-time wear. Does this seem right to you guys? My orthodontist is very respected, and I'll question this when I go back for my next appointment, but I just wanted to see if any others had a similar experience.

Whilst waiting for my refinements I was on night time wear only and this was after only 2 weeks on my final set. My orthodontist seemed to think that this was fine and I believe he follows a similar program on completion. By night time wear you will probably find that at the beginning they mean 12 hours a day anyway, which if you are anything like me means putting them in at 10pm and then wearing them till 11am to make up for the time they were out at breakfast.
I wouldn't panic, the truth is you will quickly know if you aren't wearing them enough as they will be hard to get in and won't fit too well. In that case you can talk to your ortho about whether you need to increase your wear.

Good Luck!

I recently had a mid-course correction and had to wear my aligners full time for 8 weeks until my new sets came in. There's probably a "it depends" with every case depending on the problem.

Myhollywoodsmile's comment about noticing if aligners are getting tight with night wear only is a good observation. Also, what type of follow-up plan will you have afterwards and how frequently will your visits occur? This is something to watch long term as well as just finishing treatment.

I'm approaching my last upper trays (on 20 of 22U / 31L). Hopefully I won't have to wear my upper for full time during the final 18 weeks of treatment - even much better if I can bet my upper attachments off!!
