will eating with your aligners on give you cavities?

#1 Post by TinySmiley »

I haven't eaten anything with my aligners on because I always thought that if you eat with your aligners on you are more likely to get cavities. But I noticed from reading many posts on the board that many poeple eat/drink with their aligners and their main concern is staining their aligners, not getting cavities. Am i wrong about the cavities? Is it not a issue? thanks. :)

I would never eat or drink anything (other than water) while wearing the aligners because of the potential for decay. The likelihood for most is that they would not have a problem, but I don't like to take chances! It is so easy to pop them out to eat. I'd rather wear a set of aligners an extra day to make up for time lost, if necessary, than risk cavities.

Just my two cents!

I agree phantom. Also, the times when I have eaten, rinsed and not had a chance to brush until an hour or so later, my aligners smell less than fragrant. I certainly wouldn't fancy eating with them in on this basis alone.
