Buttons on the back of the teeth?

#1 Post by PAH9 »

Hey, I think I read somewhere that it might be possible to get buttons on the back of your teeth for Invisalign, is this true?

I am just about to go ahead with treatment and will ask my ortho about it, but the potential visibility of the buttons, especially as I already have a pretty jutting canine which I'm sure will become even more horrible if/when a button sticks out of it. Being able to get it hidden on the back of the tooth would be amazing.

Thanks

You can ask but only a few people have them at the back of their teeth. I wouldn't worry too much about attachments. They really aren't that visible. Depending on where they are placed they might not be visible at all. I have had 5 attachments during my treatment and they could only be seen if I smiled widely. During my whole treatment only 1 person ever asked what they were. No one else noticed or said something. Don't worry about them too much, it will be worth it.

I had attachments on the rear of my upper incisors - not because I wanted them there but because of my treatment plan. While they couldn't be seen, they did interfere with my ability to chew as my lower teeth could hit them.

You're better off with them on the front normally. In my case, I have four on my first premolars that are very visible when I smile. Nobody has make any comment or stared at my teeth. Someone would have to be uncomfortably close to notice them.
