Having trouble for the last few sets

#1 Post by Mr Rich Uk »

So I was on tray 16 of 21 on my upper teeth before I last went in to see my orthodontist. He was happy, popped in tray 17 and gave me 18 and 19.... said he'll see me in 6 weeks.

Now I've been wearing them as normal, but the lateral incisor (the ones next to the two front teeth) is the one that I need to rotate so is quite problematic. I have an attachment on there and with the first set that he put in, I didn't think it was clicking in properly. I continued with the two weeks per set, now on 19 and it doesn't really fit at all. The weird thing is, I've kept all the trays and I can put most of them on and they all seem to fit the same...

Not sure if I'm being paranoid and that attachment isn't meant to fit snugly inside the brace or not. I'm just really concerned as I've only got two more trays after this one and my tooth doesn't seem to be anywhere near where it should be.

This is the before and after I'm supposed to have: roll your mouse on and off the picture to see the before and after.

If your tooth is still pretty far off this late in your sets of trays, it is likely that you will need refinements. I have had similar movements needed and am on my second to last tray. All looks good and there has been a lot of movement - but it is not yet perfect. I fully plan to have refinements. Disappointing, but it's okay as I am looking forward to the best results possible.

Good luck!

I had problems with rotation of my pre-molars. At a point, my attachments quit fitting into the bubbles for them in my trays. Like you, I couldn't get older trays to fit either. I had to have refinements. My orthodontist noted rotations are among the harder movements to predict with Invisalign.

I had the same problem. I was almost finished with my trays but wasn't very happy with the results. I had to wear 8 sets of refinements and they brought the results I wanted. So don't worry too much, refinements are additional trays , you just wear Invisalign for a bit longer than planned.

I wonder if that's going to end up costing me more... when we started out it was a fixed fee for the treatment and refinements were never mentioned. He only said that if I needed a retainer at the end of it, there would be a charge for that.

Hmm... I know with Invisalign Express, there are no refinements included, but Full Invisalign includes three series of refinements. I suspect that varies from country to country, though, so maybe it is best to look at your contract with the ortho or give the office a call to clarify what is included in your treatment.

It really isn't unusual at all to have refinements, so please don't be discouraged!

My refinements and retainers were included in the treatment. If you are too worried about that why not give your orthodontist a call whether you will have to pay any extra.

my refinements are also included as was a retainer. Not sure about "lets see if you need a retainer" type approach - I thought everyone needs a retainer to stop your teeth just moving back?

Turns out my refinement trays were included... all done now and onto the retainer.
