Questions for Dr. Tam

#1 Post by noelani »

I've completed a 30U/30L course and an 18U/21L set of refinements. I've had attachments on all four canines during my refinements.

Before starting my refinements, I noted that my midline of the top and bottom teeth were not aligned. My Ortho stated that it was because of the way my teeth grew in and that it could not be aligned without significantly affecting my bite. That was the first time the midline issue had been discussed. She was able to make a space between two of my lower teeth to move the midline closer.

I saw my Ortho today and noted that my lower canine on one side looks more aligned than the one on the other side. She noted that the attachments could be distorting my view. It still looked the same to me after the attachments were removed. My Ortho said that she didn't see what I saw.

She placed an order for another set of refinements to over correct that canine. Honestly, I felt like a crazy person expressing my concern.

Could it be that because my midline is not aligned that it's distorting my view of my teeth?

Your thoughts and insights are appreciated.

Unfortunately, none of the views actually provides the proper view of the alignment of the lower teeth. The lower right canine may appear to stick out more because the top tooth does not cover it the same as the bottom one. It sounds like the goal of this Invisalign treatment was alignment of the teeth without trying to correct the midline or bite.
