I ask this question here because I'm skeptical of believing what any one doctor tells me. I've already been told by an oral surgeon that I need surgery, and by an orthodontist that I don't.
I had braces in high school and it fixed my bite (can't remember what type I had, but it was fixed). However, I still have this massive overjet because I wouldn't wear headgear. I'm curious about whether Invisalign could fix this. I don't want quick treatment, I just want treatment that doesn't involve headgear. Which the orthodontist mentioned above said would "absolutely" be part of her plan for me.
Can Invisalign fix an overjet?

Re: Can Invisalign fix an overjet?
Invisalign can HELP.. but how many mm is your overjet? There are appliances now that are intra oral called Forsus. My suggestion would be to find an ortho that does that appliance as opposed to head gear. I'll post a link to our website that shows you what the appliance does. I work in an ortho office doing treatment planning.

Re: Can Invisalign fix an overjet?
It's big enough that I can get my index finger in between my bottom teeth and my top teeth when my mouth is closed. Only on the front two teeth.
Well, I will definitely look into that appliance. Thanks. I apologize for cluttering up the board with questions. While I could look at doctor's websites, it's hard to compare all the information when I really just want to know what's typically happening with treatment these days. Also, my level of trust is low, because I've been told radically different things.

You need to see an ortho, not a dentist.
You need a scan.
I don't receommend Invasalign. Traditional braces work, get over your vanity and get them.

I had a big overjet and invisalign worked perfect for it.

Re: Can Invisalign fix an overjet?
Reframing the question might help... "Can a doctor use Invisalign to help correct my overjet?". There are going to be some doctors who may be able to use Invisalign to correct your concern, while there can be others who are also telling the truth when they tell you they cannot. At the end of the day, Invisalign is a technique and tool, meaning experience and expertise makes a difference. Certainly, we have completed treatments that have reduced overjets. For those well-versed with Invisalign, what can be corrected with plastic or with traditional braces should be very similar.

Re: Can Invisalign fix an overjet?
I think it depends on the orthodontist. I was told that invisalign was out for me, because it wouldn't give me the backswing required to sort my (around 5mm) overjet. I wasn't wanting invisalign anyway, so wasn't all that cut up about it!
