Why have my trays turned white?

#1 Post by Translator »

My trays have turned opaque/white. They're no longer clear -- I can't see through them. This is my second set of trays -- this never happened with the first set. Has anybody else experienced this?

Yes, I experienced this too. After it happened, I started rinsing the trays off every time I took them out. I think they become opaque from build-up. I also brush them every time before I put them in. I haven't had the problem since.

Regular use of Retainer Brite tablets will keep the buildup away, also. Several readers with clear retainers and aligner trays have confirmed this.
I'm the owner/admin of this site. Had ceramic uppers, metal lowers ~3 years in my early 40's. Now in Hawley retainers at night!

rinse them everytime you take them off. Then at night brush them really well to make sure there is no buildup. My aligners always end up clear, actually the night befor the day i have to change them I usually don't bother cleaning them, so they don't always end up clear lol.

I soak them in Efferdent for 5-10 minutes (2 or 3 times a week) (usually while I am at home eating dinner ) and I brush them with toothpaste everytime I take them out of my mouth. I wouldnt dare put them back in my mouth without a good scrubbing of toothpaste. (eww) Plus - everytime I put them in, I had just got finished eating, so I have to brush my teeth anyway.

i tried steradent which is same as retainerbrite i didt think it made much difference i have found the best thing is to blast them with cold water after each meal and then clean them with tootbrush in morning when there is a build up of crap on them in the morning.
