Fit of Invisalign vs retainers

I just had 3 months of 6 teeth in "regular" braces. Now I have those clear plastic retainers while I wait for my Invisalign (in 4-8 weeks).
I can't put my teeth together at all while I'm wearing the retainers....I can stick my tongue through the gap inbetween top & bottom in the front. I don't have that gap at all when the retainers are out (the front teeth usually have a little overlap).
I know that as the Invisalign moves my teeth, my bite will change a lot, but in general, will I be better able to put my teeth together with the Invisalign (compared to my current retainers)?? The technician says that it's normal to have problems like mine with both retainers & Invisalign, but I'm not sure she understands how big the gap is.
