Not the Blue Gunk Again!!!

#1 Post by waiting2smile »

I had an appointment yesterday. The last time I went I had to step back a few trays because things weren't fitting as nicely as they should be, there are 4 teeth in a row that have space between them and the aligners, every other one fits like a glove. Yesterday he had me pop in #30 and said "Well its fits better than the last time we tried it but it still not perfect." He gave me 2 options - try this one for 3 weeks and see if the fit improves and the spacing diminishes or get new molds done now (like RIGHT now?) for a mid-term adjustment (not sure that really the right term..) and go forward with a whole new set of trays.

I've read its not uncommon to need an adjustment at this point but the though of that Blue Gunk in my mouth again YUCK!!! So I opted for giving this tray 3 weeks and then he'll make the call as to whether or not I need new molds done. Worse case is my treatment is delayed by this 3 weeks but at this point what's another 3 weeks (or months for that matter).

I was telling him how I'm getting anxious to start seeing some changes and feel like not much is happening lately. Of course staring at my teeth at least 3 times a day everyday makes it harder to notice the changes from the begin to now. So we went into his office and took a look at the pictures of my teeth before we started treatment and OMG what a difference!!! :D My arch is really starting to round out and I have 1 tooth that was practically hidden behind another tooth that now inline with everything else.

If any of you are feeling like your in a slump over the long process ask your ortho to take a look at your before pics, it is certainly a big moral boosted.

Ok so I went in for my appointment yesterday after getting myself mentally ready for the new molds to be done (I really really hated getting those molds done first time around) and my ortho took a look my current aligner in my mouth and said well this look much much better than they did last time, let give the next aligner a try and see how it fits so I popped it in and it fits great barely any space under those 4 teeth. He gave me number 32 and 33 and told me to wear each for 3 weeks and then I'll back again for another appointment. I'm happy to not have had the molds but OH BOY DO THIS ALIGNER HURT!!!!! Not trying to scare any of the newbies here but I haven't had an aligner hurt like this or make my teeth so sensitive since the beginning. I couldn’t sleep last night and forget about breakfast, its gonna smoothies all day for me!!

Question for those of you on a similar route as me (move the back teeth first, then slide the front teeth into position) - Once your front teeth and canines have started moving did your aligners hurt you more?

Maybe the front teeth and canines move faster or further and that’s why they seem way more sensitive than the molars and pre-molars ever did...

On a positive note, at least I know thing are moving along, no pain no gain! :D
