Removing the Trays - Removal Tools?

#1 Post by Nanny »

I will hopefully start with Invisalign in February. There is especially one thing making me a bit nervous:

Would it be really difficult in the first days to remove the trays for eating? At work I have a few short breaks. I am asking myself how that will work with my 20 minutes lunch break, going in the canteen and having lunch …but before desperately  trying to remove the trays…. And my collegues are waiting for me in front of the bathroom and were asking themeselves what I am doing such a long time in the bathroom....

What about the “removal toolsâ€

I got the hang of quickly, after maybe 3 days. Now it takes me 5 seconds tops to take them out and I've never needed anything more than my bare fingers to remove them. If you have trouble and need to do it in the bathroom for the first few days just explain to your collegues what you're doing and I'm sure they won't mind waiting a couple minutes!

its up to you when you put the 1st tray in so if you are worried like I was the best thing to do is start treatment on friday night so you have the weekend to get used to used to them.

almost forgot I did not need a tool to get them out but you do need your nails at a reasonable length ie not chewed to the bone or 3 inches long

I used guitar picks (the compact ones, not the regular-sized ones) after day 2 and for the next 3-4 days afterwards. The name on the ones that I got is "Jim Dunlop" and they are Jazz I, II, and III (indicating how blunt the tip of the pick is). My fingers were taking too much of a beating by not having any help to get the aligners out! They worked really well for me especially with getting the aligner over the attachments.

Even though it wasn't planned, I ended up going out to eat like 6 hours after getting the aligners and tried the paper towel trick that I had read about to see how well it worked. It was gross - the restaurant that I was at only had the brown paper towels. Yeah, so anyway, they tasted like sawdust :yuck: but eventually got the job done! Haven't needed any help since to try using regular paper towels that I have at home.

The first few days were a bit rough, it took me 10-15 mins to get the trays out! It got better though, after a couple of days I could get them out in about 10 seconds! It gets a lot easier once you get the hang of it. For me it wasn't that they were really tight, it was this fear that I was going to pull too hard and break the tray! that didn't happen and now I don't even think about it, they just pop right out, even on the first day of a new tray. I didn't buy any tools but the papertowel thing did help out!
