refinement question

#1 Post by diehard »

I have noticed that alot of new invisilign patients have had the surprise of finding buttons on the front of the trays and not been told until too late, what im wondering is firstly has anyone who is say 1/2 way through treatment suddenly received the next set of trays and out of the blue they have buttons on front and need some attachments putting on and secondly if you need a refinement has anyone been told you will have to have some buttons on front hope this makes some sense :)

Well I understood what you were saying  Anyway when I got my new aligers after my first refinement I got 4 new buttons as well. Pretty much every tooth except the two in front had buttons on them after that. In a way it makes sense I guess since it must be easier for invisalign to work with teeth that have buttons on them.

My guess would be that you'd get buttons with a refinement for a tooth or teeth that is really being stubborn and needs that extra push to get going to where it needs to be. I havent had a refinement yet but I have had a couple of trays that werent fitting as well as they should and my ortho pulled out this tool that looked like a hole puncher and put dimples in my top tray across the front 6 teeth. I had already worn this tray for 3 weeks and he wanted me to wear it for 1 more then switch to a new tray which he also put the dimple in. I though oh great this is going to do nothing but make me look like a goof but oh man did those little dimples apply some pressure! I felt like I just put in a new set of aligners, my teeth were no achy! Anyways those little dimples made a big diffrence in how my trays fit some my guess is that buttons with a refinement would do the same sort of thing.

Whoa am I rambling, just drank a BIG cup of coffee..sorry about that!

I don't have any buttons either. I hope nothing changes in my treatment plan making me have to get them for refinement.

I am on the express plan though (I had braces for 2 years as a kid but never wore my retainer) so I only have 7 trays.

That is nothing my dentist told me!! Really quick 3mons or so...

I really wish I would have just worn my retainer though.
