lisping does it go away??

#1 Post by cannella »

I have a horrible lisp with the aligners in and I was wondering did this happen to anyone else? Does it go away? It is embarrassing!

I have had them in for 12days...

Hi cannella,

I´ve had a horrible lisp, too. ....but only the first few days  After one week now I have nearly no more problems.

Is the lisp as horrible as on your first day  or does it gon on a little bit better?

it goes away. however, mine wasn't that bad when i first got the aligners. it took about a week for my speech to be perfect. try singing in the car or shower or on the subway, if you're a little nuts :D....whereever.

I didn't have a lisp after the first few days. It seemed to go away once I got more confident with the aligners.

I think it does

I'm not totally sure that mine is gone, but I'd say it's 98% - I do have to concentrate more on preventing it. You'll quickly find ways to adapt to the aligners so you can make a good "S".

The problem I'm struggling with is really bad dry mouth from these things! I have water with me at all times, or I can't speak normally at all. I'm on my 5th set of aligners as of tomorrow.

it has gotten a lot better!

I still hear it sometimes but the really bad part is gone.

I am relieved because I work on the phone alot and never realized how much I use the "s" sound before!

I'm in my first set of trays (changing them for the first time tonight!) and I didn't have a lisp with them. However, when I first got my appliance and then my Essix retainer, I did have one. It went away after a couple of days when I got used to it. The Essix is thicker than Invisalign, so I guess I got accustomed to that, therefore no lisp with my new trays.

I never had a lisp after a few sentences at the orthos office on the first day. I am a singer and a clarinet/trumpet player so I have been trained to enunciate a lot and make my tongue do a lot of things to make things come out right. I am sure that was the reason that I managed to get over the lisp so fast. Just practice a lot when no one can hear you and make sure that you are really concentrating your efforts on the words that are hardest to pronouce.

I agree with scorpetteFL about the whole dry mouth thing. If I drink too much water, I find myself spraying water out my mouth from it collecting in the aligners (luckily this has just been at home so far!!!).

Good luck!

I'm finding that I have to slow waaaay down to talk and then also discover that my trays seem to readjust themselves as I speak -it's annoying. When I'm working alone in my studio, my trays remain in place and almost disappear from thought.

I'll watch for the collecting water spout -I'm experiencing dry mouth, too!
