adapting to invisalign

#1 Post by Mary77 »

Dear people,

I have started to use invisalign since this monday.

Im having a lot of probs though adapting to it, the pain is bad, but thats not the worst thing, its the feeling of all that plastic in my mouth that gives me stress and drains me.

I feel this is the wrong thing for me and that i should have gone for ceramic brackets since they are only on the outside of the teeth.

Will I get used to invisalign or is it possible that I never do?

Has anyone on here made the transition to brackets and glad they didnt have to wear invisalign anymore?

thanks for any response

Mary

just hang in there for a week or 2 I promise u will feel much better about them and after a while you will feel odd when you have to take them out to eat because they become a part of you in a big way :)

Hi Mary-

I was going through the same things as you a few months back. Honestly, I wish I could say I got used to them but I didn't. I really tried but I could stand all the plastic in my mouth either. I am going in for ceramic braces Monday. Since they are only on the outside and not surrounding the whole tooth, I think they will work better for me. If you ortho agrees, you could switch to ceramic.

Hopefully you'll adapt to them better than I did. I am super sensitive to new things.

Good Luck!!!

Hello Diehard, thank you for your advice, i will hang in there and hope it will get better...

TLB... sorry to hear you couldnt adapt to them, I think I know how you felt and everyone is different, I will give them some more time but if it doesnt get better Ill switch to ceramics too
let me know how it goes on monday! and how they feel when they have placed them, if its better then invisalign, I hope it will be the right choice for you, no harm done!

take care

Mary

i had some trouble adjusting too. then, i figured out how to file down the rough edges and the plastic just got more comfortable in my mouth over time. now, i don't even notice that i have them in. it's more noticable when i have them out!

I am thinking of switching to ceramic too. I'm glad I am not the only one. I have recently heard a lot of bad endings with invisalign and I don't want the uncertainty. My case is a bit complex and I want real results. It's only been a few months but even at this stage things are getting a bit behind and I can see a treatment plan extension happening. I don't want to use invisalign for a year or so and then have to move to fixed braces. I will probably opt for it at the next ortho appointment. I just don't like the uncertainty that seems to be there with invisalign.
