Invisible Braces

#1 Post by orthouk »

Hi,

I have been considering treatment within the UK & looked at Clearstep & Invisalign but my dentist recommended another brand which I have now started and am on my second clear plastic thingy.

I actually met the guy who runs the company as he was visiting my dentist when I was there & he explained why there system was so good.

He said that Invisalign is computer generated which is good for certain things but not dentistry where its far better to have constant monitoring of your case as things dont always go as planned & they will make corrections if needed as things go along.

He said that Clearstep have had some kind of buyout & are suffering with quality control & that the plastic things dont fit accurately but as they use different technology there's are guaranteed to.

I got my kit 3 weeks ago & after having a bit of trouble with talking & it feeling a bit weird I am quite happy with mine, its not particularly uncomfortable (but I know its there) and am due to see my dentist in about 5 weeks & will let you all know how its going (I have to have about 16 for the top & 8 for the bottom.

One thing I am worried about is what he called the retention stage-he said if I dont wear my retainer my teeth will go back to where they started-is this right & I have been told I have to wear it for 9 months all the time & then at night-this seems a bit over the top to me.

retainer for life

#2 Post by shawnna89 »

My orthodontist advised me that when my treatment is over I will need to wear a retainer 24 hrs a day for a year to keep my results and after that I would be able to wear them at night at least 4 times a week for the rest of my life. With the plastic aligners there are more cases of peoples teeth going back to the original position faster because your bone dosent get to heal as much as when you have braces on, it just takes a little longer. My orthodontist told me that it takes atleast 10 full months for your bone to be back to normal so wearing a retainer 24 hrs a day for at least 10 months would be needed, since ill be getting the invisalign retainer which is exactly like the aligners just stronger I dont really care about it. Every orthodontist is different however so whatever your ortho tells you is what would be the best to keeping your smile beautiful after treatment.

Once you are done, you will want to wear a retainer at least a few nights a week forever. This keeps your teeth from moving; they are under constant pressure when you chew, grind, even from the pressure from your lips and tongue. Some people just wear their retainer every night because it easy to do.

I've heard similar stories of retainers, et al.

My new nurse practitioner, Tricia, was an Invisalign wearer. While she and her sister both committed to the program, Tric saw her sister's teeth return to original crooked formation, so Tric decided to continue wearing her last tray at night.

Why go thru all this discomfort only to have your teeth return to where you began? I know I'll be forming a co-dependent relationship with my trays!

hi, i'm new to in visalign, and have only had mine for one week. does everyone with invisalign get the invisalign retainers? or do some orthos make their own? i ask this, because i am scared that my ortho will make me wear the same aweful retainer he made me wear before i got my invisalign.... it's the type made in their office. it was very poorly made, didnt fit correctly and was so thick i could not talk so i only wore it at night. I am assuming i will be getting an invisalign retainer, but i just want to make sure. thanks.
