Sugar with trays...

Hi there,

I have a question, my dentist said, anything with sugar is not allowed (f.e. coffee, tea, coke,...). But last time she said, I can eat f.e. grapes, if it works for me with my aligners.

I can eat a lot of things, if they are not too hard, but in grapes there is sugar too and i drank sometimes tea with sugar or coffee, why should that be a problem? for the aligner? or my teeth?

i would appreciate some help

michelle

I personally feel it is a matter of if you are willing to have sugar plastered up against your teeth. Ive noticed when i drink something, it ends up in my aligner. I dont like the idea of sugar pressed up against my teeth for an extended period of time. I stick to the water only rule except for when i drink beer, then as soon as im done i take the aligner out, brush my teeth and the aligners and put them right back in. I dont worry about the aligners.....i worry about my teeth and gums! :-}

same here- about the only thing besides water i drink with them IN is beer, and then i really brush teeth and trays well.

thats what i do, if i go out, i drink soda or juice or vodka and after that i clean the aligner.

so it does not damage my aligner?
i also eat grapes and there is sugar in it too right?

so, thats all no problem for the aligners?

as i said i always clean the aligner after that.

thank you to all of you

What your orthodontist meant is making the difference between artificial sugar and natural sugar.

The artificial sugar is the bad kind, the one that actually causes plaque and cavities. While wearing your aligners, the teeth find themselves in an enclosed and dark space, the perfect recipe for bacteria. Sugar increases the production of plaque.

The natural sugar is safer. It's not known for it to cause plaque and cavities.

The only two things I consume while wearing my aligners are clear water and sugar-free Excel breath mints. Other than that, my rule of thumb is removing my aligners and always brush after I'm done...

:lol: im way ahead of u id already done a bit of research on smirnoff ice i was quite supprised that a bottle contains 228 calories so what my plan is to have no more than 4, and in between them i will have a straight shot of vodka so no more than 1000 calories which i intend to burn off dancing :)
god i hope i dont sound too anal i think i just like to plan ahead i guess thats why im a good invisalign patient. I wont be trying it out this weekend family do ect but next week i will see what happens in the mean time iv got a large bottle to try :lol:
