Can Invisalign Help My Situation?? Need Your Opinions!

So here is the history:

I had traditional braces put in place a year ago and had lower jaw surgery 6 months in. Apart from esthetics, I like how Invisalign is COMPUTERized which makes me believe that you can get PERFECT results (of course depending on how good your ortho is too..)

The problem: There were many times where I had to REALLY tell my ortho what I think should be the next step (i.e. cutting a wire here, putting elastics here, etc.) Of course I understand that since I can actually feel my teeth moving better than my ortho, I can probably suggest little things here and there.

However, it's getting very frustrating that my ortho doesn't seem to understand the depth of my concern/problem. I asked if I am a candidate for Invisalign and my ortho said no.

Reason being is because of the ORIGINAL purpose for my braces was to correct a cross bite in the front /open bite in the back (molars do not touch). With that said....

Can Invisalign help fix an open bite in the back??? I would say it is a few millimeters shy of closing.... =( Another reason why I think Invisalign would help is because I think it would help to achieve that perfect U shape for my upper and bottom teeth. Currently I feel that my left side for my upper/lowers is SLIGHTLY inwards. (think of an upside down U but one side being slightly bent toward the inside).

I may be completely crazy..or maybe desperate? But I would VERY MUCH appreciate your guys' thoughts and personal experiences. =) I love how this forum is so supportive...so thanks in advance!!!

You may be best served by obtaining another opinion from an orthodontist. Some (perhaps most?) do free initial consultations, although I would not know how that policy applies to someone already in treatment. I do know that different orthodonists have very different approaches; there is not necessarily only one way to approach the treatment. Good luck!

thanks for your guys' input. I definitely think that there is a communication issue involved between myself and my ortho. I've tried to discuss things but I'm not sure if we're always on the same page which is where part of my frustration comes from.

I'll keep monitoring the situation. I see my ortho later this week so we shall see what comes from the conversation.

THANKS again! If there is anything else I will definitely keep everyone posted...

Hi, I thought I would tell you that I too have an open bite, my back teeth do not touch because I have TMJ and have been wearing a mouthpiece to correct it and now I have to get braces to make this bite permanent. I had a few orthodontists tell me that I could not use Invislign to make my back teeth meet. I recently went to what I feel is a more qualified ortho in St. Louis, and he told me that Invisilign will most likely work fine for this, so I think I'm going to go with Invisilisn now.
