Hello I'm new

Hello there :) I'm new here, and hoping that I'll be joining the invisalign board more permanently after my ortho appointment!

Story so far? I have crooked teeth again after getting them straightened as a teenager. My gums in particular are suffering (difficult to clean) so after a fair bit of web browsing I decided I wanted invisalign.

A went to a lovely cosmetic dentist, who said yep no problem. I wouldn't need any extractions, just some widening of the bite and quoted me £4k to do the work.

BUT .... being a cautious soul I have decided to also see an orthodontist. (The only one for many miles who offers invisalign as well as traditional braces!) I'm hoping she will give a more unbiased (and professional?) opinion on the suitability of invisalign.

I cannot wait to get going with this. I'll be so disappointed if she says I need extractions and traditional braces though.... :(

I was quoted 2 years in traditional braces, with 4 extractions. So 9 months and a bit of teeth shaving for Invisalign was a much better option for me. So far, so good and I should be done in 10 weeks. I have had my whole arch widened and my smile is very broad and full now. I'm very pleased with the results which I was told by a tradtional ortho, Invisalign could not achieve. Good luck with your quest for straight teeth.

If I could be certain of the result, I would definitely opt for the 9 months and some IPR! I am REALLY REALLY hoping the orthodontist agrees that invisalign will work on my teeth. If she doesn't I'm not quite sure what I will do from there  I'd take the risk with the top set, but the bottoms are real crowded.

Have you posted photos anywhere of your progress? I'm always trying to find pictures that look like my teeth. :)

Wobblydeb - remember that you are free to tell the ortho or dentist what you want as far as extractions or teeth shaving. You don't have to approve any plan they suggest. My dentist had several clinchecks made, one with teeth shaving and no extractions, another with wisdom teeth extractions and no shaving. It's up to them to make a plan that gets your approval. Good luck.
