It seems to me conventional braces get change to happen very fast(I mean, in comparison). Just looking at the "stories" section of the forum someone with a problem similar to mine but even more severe had more change in a month wearing conventional braces that I have seen in three with invisalign.

But then invisalign users don't have a long waiting period wearing the braces after our teeth look great. I have noticed that people with conventional braces have great looking teeth after about a year and don't notice any changes in their teeth but then still have to wear the braces for another half a year or more.

So I think braces do the majority of the work fast but then have a longer period of waiting at the end whereas for invisalign user's it is just slower all around and once the teeth are done we are done. This is the reason I chose invisalign over conventional braces. I would be all for wearing braces so long as they are doing something visible to my teeth. But the long wait at the end I would just want them OFF. With invisalign it may be taking longer to do their job but they are nearly invisible for that period where my teeth are as I want them to look.

I have heard that invisalign is faster than conventional braces. I doubt this is true. Maybe in ideal cases but so many people have problems with invisalign and then refinements too so it is probably the same or longer than conditional braces. Who knows though since someone can't treat the same mouth with two different forms(and ortho's may be different and have different ideas and methods as well).

Sorry for this long, rambling, uneducated response.

Hi, lkw130,
I just saw your post and realize you have Invisalign on top and regular braces at bottom. I'm just wondering how did it start and can you just do half for Invisalign? Do they charge you half the price for Invisalign or it's the original plan? I just got wire braces for less than 2 months and hated it so much. since I already had my upper 2 premolar extracted, I have to stay on it. But I am considering asking my ortho if it is possible to switch to Invisalgn after my extraction gaps closes. I'm just not sure if I should mention about the concern for cost or I could possibly negotiate about the expense. Not that it's even already possible, but just try to collect some info before I ask my ortho about this.

Any info would help a lot! Thanks!!!
