Attachment (one out of 9) not fitting in the bump

#1 Post by Over50 »

Has anyone experienced having an attachment not fit into the groove or bump on the aligner? I have 3 attachments on each side of the lower arch, and one (a middle one on the lower left) does not appear to be in the bump for it on the aligner. The teeth seem to fit, and the aligner goes on and off as usual. This attachment is a vertical rectangle type, and is very close to the side edge of the tooth, presumably to help rotate the tooth. I don't see the ortho for another week, but just noticed this. What seems odd is that everything else seems to fit just fine, but this will push the tooth in an inappropriate direction.

One of my attachments doesn't fit in the tray anymore. It is an upper 2nd premolar that is supposed to come out and down. The attachment I guess was to help it come down. It never seemed to fit correctly from the beginning as if the attachment was placed wrong. So now I will probably need some refinements at the end to get my bite correct. They just tell me to keep using the chewies but that is hard to do frequently the first few days of a new set since my teeth hurt to bite down, and the chewies never get the tray to click onto the attachment anyway.

Not sure if I can give you any advice. I just wanted to let you know that one of my attachments stopped fitting also.

I recently had this problem with two of the attachments on my upper tray. I noticed it as soon as I put the tray in (and happened to be at the ortho at the time) and we scheduled an appt for a week later to see if the tray eventually moved to fit the attachments.

The attachments still weren't in the bumps a week later so they took those buttons off and made me new ones to fit the tray. I asked them if it would mess up the placement for other trays later on and they said they'd move them again if we had to. Just ask them about it and see what they can do for you.

I wonder if having the previous tray out for a long time (like 2 hours) before putting the new trays in allows the teeth to move back a little and then the new tray doesn't fit over the attachment. From now on I am going to put the old trays back in for an hour after eating before I put the new set in.

I noticed that the attachment on one of my lower canines is now not fitting perfectly. I'm on 23 of 28, so I hope it won't matter at this point.

The ortho looked at the fit of the one attachment, which was no longer fitting in the bump, and decided to remove it. All the other attachments, and the shape of the aligners on the teeth are fine, so I just now have one less attachment. The tooth that the attachment was on now fits well into the aligner, so we will have to see if it continues to move as planned. This is on the bottom tray, which I am on number 13 of 26. This one tooth may well be an issue if it doesn't rotate the way it needs to rotate.
