I started my journey today, with my first set of trays!

#1 Post by Stefanie »

I've been wearing my aligners fo roughly seven hours, and let me just say that while it hasn't been as terrible as I had prepared myself for it to be, it is uncomfortable. And not to mention, I have the most difficult time getting my bottom tray out!

Has anyone noticed that in the beginning of a new set of trays, it is more comfortable to leave the trays in, then have them out? Haha.

I'll complete my treatment around January 2010 [35 upper, 28 lower], which is about as long as my dentist had predicted. I'm not complaining. It's just in time [8 months shy, to be exact] for my wedding! Although, that's not the only reason I decided upon Invisalign.

But anyway.

I'm tad bit discouraged that I will be getting six attachments up top. FIVE of which are on my main front teeth. I knew I would be getting attachments, just not in such visible spots! Right now there are just grooves for the attachments in my trays [I'm whitening first] & I feel as though they are just too ridiculously noticeable, so I can't imagine how it will look once the attachments are actually on! Please tell me I'm the only one who will notice them as much & am just being overly self conscious about them?

I just keep trying to remind myself that it will be worth it in the end & that the attachments will probably be the worst of my treatment. Which, if that's the case, I truly can't complain.

I'm so excited to begin this journey!

Hey there :D Don't fret about your attachments! Some people may notice them a little, but honestly they are not that bad. They will actually be less noticeable once you get the buttons on your teeth because the gaps in your tray will be filled with tooth coloured material.

If I can work out this interweb gizmo I will add a recent photo of mine. I have 4 attachments on my uppers ..... but I don't think they look too bad. The lateral incisor is fairly shadowed and a bit discoloured so shows up more than some of the others... 8)

p.s. Yes, they are more comfortable left in at first!
Initial set: 31 upper / 17 lower
1st refinement: 14 upper / 10 lower
2nd refinement: 10 upper / 5 lower

i'm on aligner 2 and i got three attachments on top and four on the bottom right off the bat - no adjustment period! and they aren't terrible. the bottom ones you can't see at all, and the top ones also aren't too visible. after a while, though, you won't care who sees them.

i have one on my very crooked left lateral incisor (makes sense, as it this is my only misaligned tooth on top, and needs to be rotated) and the first few days, it really irritated the inside of my mouth (above my lip), and it really hurt. but now it looks like my mouth is used to it being there so everything's back to normal. they will confuse you after you eat, though, because i always think i have something stuck in my teeth and no, it's just the attachments!
