Finished! But retainer Q

Hi all,
Well after 11 months Ive finished my invisalign treatment (waiting for dentist to send me before and after pics to show you). I have a question about my retainer though. I've been given the plastic one you wear at night, but they feel a little loose. I wore them for the first time last night, and tried my normal aligners first thing and they didn't hurt so couldn't have moved, but when I bite with them on, it feels squishy like there's lots of room for saliva to get stuck in there (sorry if TMI). Is this normal? I imagined theyd be really tight.
Id ask my dentist but hes gone on holiday for two weeks.
