Hi,
I almost finished my 18 aligners and I will have refinements....I was just curious if the Dr. removes the attachments to do another teeth impression....because I would like to clean my teeth and whiten them a bit and this would be a good opportunity since the teeths with attachment have changed colour! Thanks

hey there!
well i dont know about every ortho but when i went in to get my refinement impressions done they filed off all my original attachments
the thing is, my ortho and his dental nurse/assistant had a bit of an argument about it right in front of me! He was saying they all had to come off, she was saying that they were meant to stay on! anyways, in the end he went ahead and filed them, which i was v. happy about!
got my teeth cleaned and checked out no problem, wish i had some whitening gel at the time but ah well, i'll just have to wait till after its all finished!
only had to get one attachment for my refinement set which is great!
hope this helped

I imagine it would be dificult to get the impressions off the teeth and the attachments would likely damage the molds. It was quite tricky to pull my impressions off without any attachments, so the though of having impressions with attachments doesnt seem feasible.

They left all my attachments on when I got my refinements. It wasn't a problem. Most of them were still needed during the refinements and I got a couple more. On the clincheck the original attachments showed up as white, like they were part of the teeth.
