wisdom teeth?

Hi

I get to see my clinicheck this Tuesday - can't wait!

One question though, has anyone found that their wisdom teeth coming through have undone the good work invisalign has done? I have one impacted wisdome tooth on the lower right jaw and one more that hasn't started to come through yet on the upper left. I'm a bit worried that I might pay out £3500 for my invisalign only for the wisdom teeth to come through and crowd my mouth again.

Any one had any experience of this? My normal dentist did suggest getting the impacted tooth removed a year ago but because it hadn't bothered me I hadn't got around to it yet. If I had it removed before I start invisalign would it impact the moulds that have already been taken?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I had all of my wisdom teeth removed just before I started Invisalign. My dentist had the clincheck made under the assumption that my wisdom teeth would be removed. A bottom one was completely in. If your wisdom teeth aren't completely through the gums yet then the aligners would probably be made to only fit over the molars in front of it. Just make sure to ask your doctor what you should do with the wisdom teeth when you are looking at the clincheck. I'm surprised he didn't already discuss it with you.

Potentially, but your dentist and orthodontist are the best people to ask about this.

My wisdom teeth came in after I had fixed braces as a teenager, and they definitely contributed to the overcrowding I am dealing with now. But what was true for my teeth isn't necessarily so for yours! :)

I had a similar experience to Wobblydeb as a teenager. My wisdom teeth came in severely impacted and growing sideways into my second molars. After my braces were removed, my teeth started crowding as the wisdom teeth were pushing them together.

Needless to say, this problem is probably on of the reasons I'm reading this board today!! Your ortho should be able to answer your questions about any problems that could result from your wisdom teeth based on your records exam.

Hi

Saw my dentist today - he says as long as I wear my retainers as I am supposed to when I finish, the teeth won't budge and my wisdom teeth won't overcrowd my mouth.

Hi

Just something to think about, my ortho recommended I got my wisdom teeth out before starting invisalign even though they weren't through yet or causing me any trouble.

He explained that if they caused trouble and had to be removed during invisalign it could mess up my invisalign. This is because after wisdom tooth extraction the face becomes sore and swollen and many people cannot open their mouth for up to a week, which would make getting invisalign aligners in and out impossible.

I got my wisdom teeth out, and now I totally agree with him. No way could I have got my aligners in or out

Hope this helps you
