are retainers supposed to hurt???

Hey all

so im finished my treatment and just got my retainers today. Got a fixed bonded retainer top and bottom and an essix retainer to wear at night

so i left the office without the essix retainer in and did shopping and had some lunch

but then when i went home i put in the essix and the pain was quite instant, and is still there now, it feels like my teeth are moving with that kind of aching pain, and it hursts when i take it in and out, more so than the invisalign trays themselves!

is this supposeed to happen or has my ortho made a mistake? im going to chicago for 7 weeks tomorrow so wont be around if it needs to be fixed

any advice appreciated

Were your teeth held in position after taking the moulds for your Essix retainer and it arriving? I'd be wondering if they have moved since the moulds were done?
