Having a slight panic!

I managed to work myself into a tizzy last night, when I realised I was getting pain in my jaw when I yawned or opened my mouth wide.... It is like a muscular pain around the lower jaw joint running up to my ear.

By god, I hope it is just sinus congestion and not me developing TMJ. I've never had TMJ problems, or headaches and I don't want to start :( That was one of the reasons for asking my dentist not to correct my bite!

So..... I have taken some decongestants and am keeping my fingers crossed...

Don't worry too much unless the symptoms go on for a while. Some other problems are ear aches and trouble getting ears to clear.

I had these problems before I started treatment and sometimes woke up with ear aches. I did find I could get relief by relaxing my jaw and letting it move forward slightly. The problem is totally gone now that my two middle front teeth have been tilted outward where they belong.

If problems persist, its probably a good idea to discuss with your dentist. You may be able to have the problem corrected with Invisalign now even if you were told a year ago this wasn't feasible. However, treatment may be more difficult than doing more routine Invisalign procedures.

Good luck!!

Hi there,
Don't panic just yet. I am on set 17 and had this last week for three days, then it went. I seem to remember having it near the beginning of my treatment too. Not sure what it was, but I always thought maybe I pulled myself a bit when opening my mouth wide to remove an aligner.

Give it a few days before you worry too much, and then if it's still there go and see your dentist.

good luck

Thank you :) Luckily it has eased off already and I've calmed down again... Gad darn teeth!
