I am having trouble chewing

#1 Post by madtownmarie »

Hi all- I got invisilign this past monday (4 days ago) from my dentist. I had braces as a teenager so I really only needed minor revisions to get my perfect smile back.

Since I got my aligners I have been having trouble chewing- upon closer investigation it appears I literally have no tooth to tooth contact anymore except for on the sides of my teeth (top teeth are hitting the sides of bottom teeth). Basically my bottom teeth have been tipped in. The result has been one of my bonded "anchors" (I can't recall their name) has been mostly chipped off. I was under the impression these lasted the entire treatment time- not just 4 days.

Since my teeth were pretty good to begin with, I guess I understand that they may get worse before they get better- but not being able to chew food is coming as a bit of a surprise to me. My dentist is newer to doing invisilign (shocker huh) and now I am fearing that I made an error by not going with an orthodontist.

I have left a message with him to hopefully come in on monday and at a minimum get my anchor repaired- but I am wondering if anyone else has experienced these chewing issues or if I should consider getting an orthodontist involved before it is too late.

Any input (particularly by the ortho I see who reads this board) would be appreciated

The teeth cant really move that much in 4 days. Most likely your jaw has relaxed if your bite feels that far off and you are altering your previous biting pattern. The attachements can come off and need to be rebonded just as braces come off and have to be rebonded.

Hi, my biting went funny for the first few aligners, I think my jaw was tense or something but its all fine now (20 weeks in). I think it improved by about set 3.
