Waiting for a mid course correction....

It's been 3 weeks, and even though I know he said 4-5 weeks (and it took 10 or 11 for my original trays), I'm itching to get back to it.

When my top tray 4 didn't fit on I (the bottom did but not well) called and they said to wear tray 3 for a few more days to see if that helped and we could just adjust my change day for future trays. After a few days I could get the top on but I really had to force it on there and it didn't feel right, the bottom one fit on fine by this point. He got me right in and the same - he had to really force/manhandle it on there.

So he took off the attachments, did new impressions and now I'm waiting for my new trays.

I had figured I would need a correction at some point but not this early on!

I was told that I could just use my current set at a retainer of sorts and not wear it the full 21-22 hours per day since it was more to keep them in the same spot they were in so that the new trays fit when they come in. I've gotten a bit slack I have to admit. Initially I wore them the usual 21 hours a day, then after a few days I left them out longer after a meal and then started leaving them out from lunch till after dinner and lately it's been leaving them out from after breakfast until after dinner, so only really wearing them on average 14 hours a day. I just hope I'm not getting so out of my routine that it's hard to get back into it when the new trays came in, although it wasn't hard to get used to having to brush and clean, etc after meals. I have noticed that I've been snacking more though which I had cut out when I first got them because it was more of a pain to brush/clean every time I wanted a quick snack!

Any one else told this and just used the current tray as more of a retainer? Any adverse affects from not wearing them as much while waiting?

I had a mid-course correction last summer but was told to wear my last set of aligners full time until the new ones came in. However, I do have a complex case involving vertical movement, so my ortho is being very careful. In my case, I had made it to tray 14 before I required the correction.

When the new trays came in, I had a total of 17 instead of the original 7 that I would have gone through to finish. I've made good progress until recently when my attachments on two premolars for rotation no longer lined up with my aligners, so the attachments on these two teeth were filed off. I hope this isn't something that is going to require refinements.

If you find your trays are fitting ok after being out a while, you are probably ok with the more relaxed schedule. If you are feeling tightness like having new trays, you may want to contact your dentist.

My ortho told me that when I'm waiting for refinements, I only need to wear my last aligner for 12 hours a day.

I feel a little bit of pressure after having them out the bulk of the day but by morning no pressure when I put them back in after brushing. The new trays are now in but due to the holiday this week I am scheduled to go in on Monday to get them. So perhaps over the weekend I'll wear my trays full time to get my mouth used to a full time tray and help with not having pressure when I put them in - it's hardly any, nothing even close to that of a new tray or even a week into a tray, etc. I'm guessing it's the same presure you feel when you have a retainer and put it in at night.

When you say they didn't fit, was there gaps at the bottom of the alligner or gaps between the gum and the alligner?

I didn't see any gaps, but then again I could barely get it on! I had one tooth in the front (the 2nd one on the left in the fronts) that apparently didn't move correctly or as expected so I had to really force it on.

When I got my new trays that tooth now has an attachment to help it move properly/better.

Was you mid course correction included in the price? My ortho wants to charge me for one - ouch!

From what I've read on here your cost includes at least some corrections/refinements. I'm not sure if that is set by the dentist/ortho or if it's Invisalign that sets that (and might be diff in diff countries/areas, etc). I've heard anywhere from 1 to 5 corrections/refinements on here.

Mine did not charge me for mine - said some adjustments are included with what I was charged initially. Not sure how many total I get as I didnt' think to ask at the time but at least 1 for sure!

Might be worth a separate post for others to answer on how many corrections they were allowed with theirs and if anyone knows who sets how many are covered!
