Hi! I'm new to this forum

I just got my first tray yesterday (only lower jaw to start). After reading so many people's posts about how painful Invisalign can be, I was surprised that I didn't have much pain, just a bit of achy-pressure on my teeth.

This morning I couldn't even feel it until I had to take it off to eat, and then the achiness returned momentarily. But then it subsided again.

Is this normal? I'm starting to wonder if the tray is even working. Or maybe I'm just incredibly lucky. (I also had no problems when I had my wisdom teeth extracted surgically - no chipmunk cheeks or pain.)

You sound like me, I didn't have hardly any soreness at the beginning. My teeth would be sore a little when I changed a tray, but I could still eat hard things (like carrots, apples, no problem). It was not bad at all ( I wondered too, if they were actually working!). What I am finding now, that my teeth are turning more/straightening, the trays are a little tighter and it is more sore. So, I guess it depends on how much you teeth are moving.

Everyone is different. My first tray gave me a bit of a tight feeling. The second one when I had attachments on was tighter with a stronger ache for the first few days - but only really notice the ache for the first 5-10 minutes of wearing the tray, then for the first few days when taking on and off.

Most of my trays have been like that, but I have had one or two trays that were noticeably more painful. Never to the extent that I couldn't eat though.

^ Heh. I had aches with the 2nd tray... but surprisingly, it was smooth sailing trays 3-15 (my current one).

New trays don't even hurt popping in and out for the first time. Amazing.

My first tray wasn't that bad - the second a bit worse but once attachments were on at tray 3 that's when more pain started.

But like you even once the pain started - it would be there when I first put them in and then subside to a pressure type feeling. When I took them out it'd be there for 15-20 mins then go away. This happens the first 2-3 days of every new tray so far.

@TinySmiley: Yeah, I'm totally eating hard things still and don't feel much of anything. I'm glad that someone's experiencing the same things I'm experiencing! (So I DIDN'T break my invisaligns in the first week! hahaha)

My 3rd tray was the one that made me cry! I was worried that tray four was going to be the same, but it was not bad at all. Now, at least, I know I can handle intense trays, so I am no longer dreading the day I change to new ones.

I think it really depends on what teeth are moving and how fast the moves are happening. I only have 7 lower trays (12 upper), and the uppers have been so easy, but the lower teeth are far more sensitive. I'd actually be happy with a little more discomfort if the uppers would move a little bit faster (well, I say that NOW!)

It's really different for everyone.

It will depend on your mouth, which teeth are being moved, and how they're being moved.

I've only found significant pain when a tooth is being rotated, especially the canines...yikes

However, even then, it's only for a few days.

Ah I had no pain so far with tray 1, but on tray 3 my canine will be rotated too, with the buttons attached...
