How much do/did your retainers cost?

I currently have a lower bonded retainer (which I hate, its lumpy and uncomfortable) and my ortho wants to put a bonded one on the upper. I'm less than thrilled about this. Each bonded retainer cost me £225.

So, when I asked about the invisalign retainer he just said 'oh they are really expensive', what more expensive than £450!

So was wondering, as i've lost confidence in my ortho, after I finish refinements (still haven't got them, six weeks and waiting......) can I firstly change orthos just to get retainers and how much do your orthos charge you for all the different kinds out there?
