Interarch Elastics with Invisalign

After a few months of trying to get my rear teeth to grow out on their own to correct a severe deep bite, my orthodontist put a few metal "buttons" on my rear teeth with elastics to help pull up my molars and a pre-molar. This is in addition to having Essix retainers that cover my front 8 upper and lower teeth and replace my last Invisalign trays.
The biggest problem so far is the buttons are really irritating and cutting the inside of my cheeks. It's definitely curbed my appetite and I've lost 3 pounds. These things are a lot worse than regular attachments! I hope this gets better in a few days.
I'm not sure how long it will take to get my rear teeth to line up. There is about a 3 mm gap between my uppers and lowers on one side and about a 1 - 2 mm gap on the other. I'm already up to 2 years treatment and it looks like this could take a few months more.
This is taking a lot longer than expected. I had two previous ortho treatments that were both about 2 years. This time, probably due to age and pre-existing conditions, its taking longer. My biggest regret now is not following up with a regular orthodontist after my second treatment when I realized the dentist who did it was very inexperienced.
