Looks like I'm going to have to stop this.....

I started my second tray 3 days ago. Since then I have had the most unbelievably BAD taste in my mouth, it's really awful. I had a bit of this during the first week of treatment but it went after a day or so, this time it has just carried on getting worse. Have never had anything like it. Finally in despair have just taken the trays out and they are going to stay out I think. Will see the dentist on Monday (and he is going to be so unimpressed!) and see if anything can be done but at the moment there is no way I can stand this.

I brush, floss, use mouthwash after every meal, the trays are immaculately clean and I even clean my tongue but nothing I do has any effect. Have also tried rinsing with baking soda and tea-tree mouthwash all to no avail.

Anyone out there had this? And if so, what did you do? I am actually thinking that I am having a reaction to the plastic. Some mornings my eyes are a bit swollen too.

Grateful for any advice or anyone who has been there!

Janae

Do you think maybe they could make the hypoalergenic trays for you?

Have you really cleaned your trays? I had a lot of mouth bad taste, lots of stuff in the mornings, but in the morning now I do a The cleaner that starts with the letter P that has been used in spam posts, so it's censored. denture clear (the 3 minute kinds) and that seems to have helped a lot.

Thanks for replying! (glad someone did...). Turns out it was a bad reaction to using Listerine Total Care and Steradent (which I'd been using to clean the trays). Phew, big relief! Now that I have stopped using both it has gone. The dry mouth has even lessened a bit - if anyone reading this has the dry mouth problem it might be worth trying different mouthwashes etc. to see if it helps it.

I still need to figure out a natural way to clean the aligners however. The dentist advised just brushing them with a soft brush and water which is fine now but I think they might need something more towards the end of their run. Don't want to scratch them with toothpaste though.

I read somewhere, on an internet site that one method of cleaning your trays is to soak them in a 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water. I've been doing that no more than once a day, and not for too long - usually while I brush my teeth. Then I clean them gently with my soft bristle tootbrush. If anyone knows that this is not a good idea, please share!
