Just received my first tray - the jury is out!

Hi everyone. I received my first tray on Monday and have spent the last few days thinking I have made a mistake. The lower tray was SO rough - I finally took an emery board to it and it feels much better. However, I still have a lisp and can really feel them in my mouth - I sincerely hope this feels better soon.

I get my little "anchors" on my teeth my next visit (in ten days) along with three sets of trays. I have read a lot of negative things about these anchors on other sites and am very anxious about having them put on. Also, I have been reading about "refinement" trays - something my ortho did not tell me about. I don't think I could do this for longer than my original 28 trays!

Did anyone else out there feel like they had made a HUGE mistake???? Does it get better???? :?

Hang in there! I think you will get used to the feeling, and talking will get better. I felt self conscious and thought everyone noticed them, but nobody did till I told them. They were just wondering why I wasn't talking as much! I have to file my trays occassionally, but not always. I hate the attachments, that was one thing I wasn't told much about. But they don't show much when the trays are in your mouth, I feel like they show more when you take the trays out. I just try to remind myself they're helping to move my stubborn teeth.
Good luck and give yourself time. I've had mine for five months and although I don't love it the whole routine has gotten pretty automatic.

Hope you are starting to feel better, I am on week 12 of 28 and I have had to file some parts on most of mine, it was a tip that I learned on this website and has been invaluable.
I haven't had the attachments yet but I have got the bobbles on the aligners so it might happen yet, I don't feel as if much progress has been made yet, just put a new set in tonight, so if they offer me the attachments I will welcome them if the end result is better.
You will get used to them - just think how lovely your teeth will be and it will keep you going.

Tell your orthodontist about the roughness. It might just be that set of aligners, but the aligners should come from Invisalign polished well enough so they don't rub you the wrong way.

The lisp will pass after you get used to wearing them and the attachments aren't all that terrible (I am getting some on next week). Investing in your smile is a big decision and even though you feel nervous about the road ahead you are going to be really happy when you are done so hang in there.

Thanks for the encouragement. I just had my second visit, received 3 set of trays - and have had the anchors attached. They feel so funny and one of them has made that tooth very sensitive - really is uncomfortable to remove the braces. :ouch: I have considered skipping meals!

I feel exactly the same! I have had my first tray in for almost a week now and still cannot get used to it. I feel quite disheartened when I think about the year ahead (25 trays). I wasn't aware of the refinement either and I am really nervous I may have to have it! I'm a singer too and had my first gig the other night since having them in, felt distracted throughout the whole thing. I'm just hoping I'll get used to them. Not sure about you guys, but my mouth gets really dried out when the trays are in? Not keen on my attachments either and they're really sharp, I'm eating less and always hungry but I'm sure in a year's time I will be the happiest girl in the world and it'll all be worth it! (I hope)..... :) Good Luck.
