braces after gum disease

#1 Post by shamohan »

Hi

I'm new to this forum, I had perio and some bone loss due to that. I have been doing 3 month cleaning and is under control. But my dentist recommended invasalign to fix the teeth which moved due to that. But when i visited a ortho, he recommends a ceramic bracket braces since inavasalingn has to be removed and put back, multiple times every day, which could make the teeth wiggle. Did anyone had braces under the same situation like mine? what would be the best way to go. I reaaly need to fix my teeth(overbite also) but at the same time, dont want to end up wearing the wrong one.

Hi - I was in similar situation. I have severe bone loss and for me, it was also a question between braces vs invisalign. I went to three orthos and two recommended invisalign because braces would move teeth much too quickly whereas there is better control with invisalign. I have started treatment a little over two weeks ago and admit that movement is well controlled with invisalign. However, a word of caution - due to the lack of knowledge w/r/t removing the aligners, I may have caused one tooth to be more mobile prematurely. That freaked me out to no end. I returned to the office and one of the assistants showed me how to remove the aligners properly.

Have lost a considerable amount of sleep due to the fear of losing teeth during treatment but realize that regardless of how worried I am, nothing would change the outcome. Bottom-line, having straight teeth and a correct bite likely outweighs the Cons. I wish you the best of luck and please keep me posted.
