Pulling upper teeth down / lower teeth up. Recession?

For those of you who had certain of your upper teeth pulled down / lower teeth pulled up, did it give you recession?
My ortho said it should not because the gum will go with it, but I'm not sure about that because I had recession when two of my upper teeth were pulled down (or maybe a little inward at the same time).
She will pull down some of my upper teeth with the trays but I'll need a TAD to pull down my lower teeth. I wonder why is that. The trays only work for pulling not pushing?
Thanks
