Can Invisalign push molars back?

#1 Post by loveactually »

I have a bit of a crowding issue. My teeth don't look too bad (only one flares out, and my two front incisors tip inward), but they're all jam packed together. I have a difficult time flossing because the floss just gets stuck (no matter what type of floss I try, this is always the case). The only spot where the floss doesn't get stuck is in the gap between my flared lateral incisor and my tipped medial incisor.

Is there a way that a skilled Invisalign practitioner can use the trays to move molars back to give the rest of a person's teeth a bit more space to also move back? I'm in my late 20s, and I think I may have the room for this in both my upper and lower jaw. I also realize that every case is specific, and my situation might be more complicated than this. What other options can be used to create space in an adult?

Thanks! :)

The short answer is yes, an experienced Invisalign provider can absolutely distalize your molars using Invisalign.

You definitely want to approach an experienced Invisalign orthodontist about your treatment. The easiest way to find one is to use the Invisalign doctor locator on their website. Invisalign has indicators to show you which doctors are most experienced.

Be sure to communicate your goals for treatment to your orthodontist so they will be able to share with you exactly what will need to be done to reach them. When it comes to orthodontics always be prepared for the need for some minor recontouring of teeth to make sure all the puzzle pieces of your bite fit together well, and in the case of Invisalign be ready for auxiliary devices to help facilitate treatment especially if your teeth are particularly jumbled up (they are usually temporary and can be tucked away in places that aren't noticeable while they are needed).
