Better before over correction??

#1 Post by Briezer2 »

I'm am currently on the final tray of my 19U/L treatment. The last 3 have been overcorrection trays. My top teeth look great but my bottom ones looked much better before the last 2 trays. Now they are too crowded and aren't lined up like they had been.

Is this normal? Does this change sound like something that refinements would be able to correct or am I looking at additional trays?

Very discouraged :(

Yes, sometimes over-correction trays do "over-correct" and not for the better. Refinement may or may not fix the issues you now have, depending on how your doctor and the technician plan the new trays. If you are happy with your teeth's position in a previous tray, the easier way is just go back to it... i.e. wear the previous tray, then the previous 2nd tray, etc.

Of course, talk to the doctor first if you decide to go back to a previous tray. You can keep wearing the same top tray while switching the bottom tray.

This depends on what your teeth looked like before overcorrection and what the overcorrection was designed to address. There are movements such as increased rotation, torque, closing space, etc that the doctor can program into the movements. In other words, overcorrection aligners are not magical aligners that know what need to be done with your teeth.

Definitely get in touch with your doctor to let him/her know about your concerns. Good luck!
