Hi everyone,

I just read on another forum that someone was getting speedbumps on the of their mouth - so you can't see them!

I think it is a genius idea...anyone hear of them doing this?

From what I've gathered they use speedbumps on the insides of teeth along with the outsides of teeth if they think it will be really hard to more those teeth. Although its an ingenius idea I've heard that having speedbumps on the inside of teeth are harder to bond and have them stay. If they could figure out the bonding issue it'd be great!

I had two speedbumps on the inside of my top front two teeth. Well, one of them never stayed on (they tried 3 times to put it on, and it kept falling off). After getting used to them, they were OK. However, taking them off was not. The scraping to get the glue off was not very successful and I still have portions of the rough glue on the back of my teeth. I couldn't take the scraping anymore so I just told them to leave it.

Hi Elise,
I take it you finished Invisalign?? How did it all turn out??

Yes, I was in invisalign for 6 months, and it messed up my bite. None of my molars were touching when I finished my treatment (and they were touching before). So, I am now in ceramic braces for a year. I was very disappointed. The invisalign straightened my teeth, but gave me more problems than I had to start with. I have had my braces now for almost 4 months.

I am on my 4th aligner and I realized today now that when I bite, I can only feel my right side molars. I used to be able to feel the left. Should I be worried? I have 26 aligners - I am assuming the teeth move in all kinds of ways - so I am not sure if I should be worried or not. Help?

Lesley,

If I were you I would just mention it to my orthodontist at your next visit. Like you, I assumed that my teeth would move around a bit before they were brought to their correct place. I didn't say anything about the problems I was experiencing until I was in my last tray and realized that my teeth were nowhere near acceptable since I could not eat.

Hey Lesley,

Tell your ortho the next time you see him but most likely your bite will have changed by then. I remember my teeth hit in all sorts of weird places while they were moving them. Even better maybe ask your ortho to explain what your bite will be like once you finish since that's something the rest of us have had problems with.

Bummer Elise :? I was hoping you were an Invisalign success story. I wish Invisalign would tell us that our bite will most likely be off once we finish treatment. I probably still would of done it but at least then I would of been prepared for it instead of like "WHAT!!!!!"

I am going to mention it next time I go to the ortho.

Invisagirl - so you experienced weird bite stuff during the treatment? Also, at the end of your treatment, what was your bite like (I think your pictures at the end of invisalign are pretty good).

Hi lesley :-1

Yup I definetly had some weird bite stuff go on during treatment. My wisdom teeth had fully come in so with those gone Invisalign used the spaces on the upper arch to relieve crowding. So basically my 2nd molars got pushed back to were my 3rd molars used to be any everything else followed suit. When Invisalign was still moving my molars there would be times that my molars only connected on one side, etc. I had a friend who reassured me that it happens with traditional ortho also so I didn't question it since my molars were on the move.

If you look at my story in the "Braces story" area I've posted new pictures that were taken before I started Invisalign. Although my canine teeth stick out all my upper molars were able to contact the corresponding lower molar to help chew food, etc. Now only my 3rd molars and premolars meet. So all my other molars are kind-of useless for chewing food. Now that I'm not wearing Invisalign religiously my bite does feel off (or maybe it feels that way cause my mind tells it that??) My pre-Invisalign lower arch was perfect in my mind but Invisalign gave me 6 or 8 (I forget the exact number) aligners for that arch (I think) to make sure everything would fit right when it was over. The only thing was (which I found odd but didn't question) was when they took new impressions for my revision they didn't take an impression of my lower teeth to make sure things would still line up and such. I guess in retrospect that should of been a big warning sign to me!! I think it was my orthos decision and not Invisaligns. So basically my ortho decided to straighten my upper arch without regard to how the bite would be. The ortho was board certified any everything but I think greed kind-of took over and ruled his mind.

Thanks everybody for such good information concerning bite problems caused by braces.

I've had metal braces on my lower teeth only for 1.8 yrs to correct a protruding right canine, and I had no bite problems.
My ortho never monitored how my bite was changing and now I'm experiencing horrible TMJ pain and my bite is totally screwed up.

A TMJ specialist now recommends upper and lower braces for at least a year to correct my bite problems.

I was going to ask him about Invisalign, but after reading your info, I'll stay away from them.

I've been trying to find info concerning bite problems caused by braces, so I was really glad to read your comments.
Have your bites improved? How long did it take before you felt any improvement?
