Chin implant after lower jaw and genioplasty?

I had my lower jaw advancement and genioplasty a year and half ago. I meet with a plastic surgeon about some facial procedures and he felt that my chin is still weak and I would benefit from a chin implant. I am a little hestitant about it, mostly because my chin and lower lip never regained their full feeling-they are numb. I am concerned about creating more damage to that area. Also wondering if its a good idea having a chin implant next to the plates and screws that are already in my chin. Unfortunately, the plastic surgeon has not ever used a chin implant on a person with my prior procedures. The plastic surgeon felt that maybe the oral surgeon only moved my chin a certain distance because that is as far as he felt comfortable moving it.
So has anyone still needed to get a chin implant after already having lower jaw advancement and genioplasty? I have tried internet searches but can't find any info. I would appreciate any ideas.

Wow, that is a bummer! Have you talked to your Oral Surgeon to see his thoughts on the matter?? I def would find out his thoughts before making any decisions!
I see you are from Michigan, what part? I am getting my surgery done in a few weeks at St. Joe's in Ann Arbor.

My oral surgeon is doing the chin implant on me when he does the jaw surgery. I'd talk to your oral surgeon first.

I don't feel comfortable going back to the oral surgeon's office. Long story short-my oral surgeon was ill and was unable to perform the surgery and one of the other doctors from his office did the surgery. The oral surgeon was "out of network" with Blue Cross so I had to pay everything up front. After I gave the $12,000 check is just seem like nobody at the office cared anymore. I saw the surgeon for my final check up in July, I said I still had some jaw pain. He said he was going to get some paperwork and left the room. Twenty minutes later his assistant came in with a prescription for 30 valiums with no refills and said "your all set, good luck" The chance to discuss the numbness and chin position was gone forever. So I thought is was best to move on.
Thanks for the replys, still unable to find anyone that got a chin implant after already having genioplasty.

I don't advice to do that, chin implants don't live for too long, it will erode your bone. it might look good for a while but then it will make a lot of damage. I think you should consult with an OS about that...
hope that helps and good luck

Sorry for your dilemna--sounds rough.
I think you should talk to your surgeon, even if your surgical experience was disappointing. To tell honestly, I find it unconscionable that they'd ignore you or rush you out after such a physical/lifestyle committment, and also such a significant payment. And, I think you should tell them so. In addition to the high dollar amount, you put your life and future health in their hands; they absolutely owe you follow-up care.
(As a caveat: I've had to fight doctors for a problem in a very different realm of care, and I may be overly quick on the draw. However, if you feel like they're being less than professional, I think you oughtta call them on it.)
In any case, good luck, and hope it gets resolved to your satisfaction.

I don't know if you are anywhere near Detroit but my oral surgeon is in Plymouth (outside of Detroit) and is in network with BCBS as that is the insurance I have.
Another idea I have is to see a plastic surgeon that is on the north side of detroit. I initally went to him for a chin implant before I decided to go through jaw surgery. He told me really the only way to help my situation was to go for orthagnathic surgery. His father in law is a retired oral surgeon with the Cleveland Clinic. I am sure that he could consult with his father in law to determine the best plan of action for you. He was very honest with me about needing jaw sugery and didn't try to give me the quick fix I was looking for. He could have just taken my $3,000+ that I was prepared to pay for a chin implant.
If you would like either name..pm me and I will get them to you.
Good luck!
