Just had an implant put in. How long does it typically take to have the bone "grow" around it?

That is longer than I was expecting. But the important thing is that it takes hold well since this is the new "root" of the tooth.

Dear Christina,
We dentists have a big word for the process wherein the bone solidifies around the implant: and that word is "osseo-integration".
Here is my personal experience:
After having a bone graft in the uL4 area the periodontist placed my implant and suggested that I
wait for wait three months
. Since I am a dentist I like to document most things that I do to other people and everything that's done to me.
You can see the course of my implant work at

Cordially and best wishes for health and happy new year, Dr. Ted

Thank you for inquiring.
I had bone graft and then implant as a prelude to getting my crown soon.
Please go to

I have just asked because my oral surgeon did not mention that grafting was necessary. He actually removed all my healthy wisdom teeth too. I was thinking that if he considered doing bone grafting he would have saved some wisdom teeth for that.

How long after the bone graft did you have the actual implant placed? I'm having a bone graft done where tooth 35 should be as well. My orthodontist told me the implants won't happen until all the teeth are in perfect position and braces are off so that should be roughly 6 months after surgery. Will I need to wait much longer for the implant surgery?
