Cleanings with Implants

Was told recently that the hydenist needs to be careful when cleaning the abuttment on an implant, that it can't be scrapped. Never heard of this before, I thought that is what hygenists did at cleanings-scrap off tarter. Anyone had cleanings with implants in place?
