Decided to go for it!

#1 Post by SarahLu »

Hi Everyone,

It is probably a bit early for me to be posting yet, but I have finally decided after many years of deliberation to have a brace and the sooner i post the better as I dont want to talk myself out of it!!

My dentist told me i needed a brace when i was about 13, but thinking i knew it all i refused and now at the age of 22 i realise how stupid i was! All my life i have HATED my teeth, i smile with my mouth closed and have even learned to talk without hardly showing my teeth as i am so self conscious. I cant wait to pose for a pic with a big grin and when i do i will definitely post it here for all to see!

I looked into having a brace about 3 years ago and never did it (AARGH theyd be coming off now!!!) so have decided im NOT putting it off any longer. I have found an orthodontist near my work who offers the treatment i want (I am interested in lingual or ceramic braces, the brand they use at this particular clinic is Invu which i hear are quite good, they also do Invisalign but i worry that i would not wear the retainer if it was not fixed  ). Anyway i have not even booked my consultation yet hehe as i have an appointment at my regular dentist in a couple of weeks and im going to get a once over first to make sure everything is ok, but i AM definitely going to do it. Have been reading the forum all morning and am stunned at all the support that is offered i will definitely be posting here regularly when i get started with treatment. In the meantime i have a few questions if anyone can help id be really greatful:

1. As i mentioned above, i am awaiting an appointment with my regular dentist, is this worthwhile or should i go ahead and book the cnsultation with the ortho?

2. Invu braces - Cant find much info on the net, the official website has no before and after pics and only pics of models with them on which i am sure is not realistic if anyone here has these or any info i would be really greatful!

Thanks everyone , look forward to posting and reading your stories,

SarahLu

Hi SarahLu

I can't help you with the Invu braces I'm afraid but maybe somebody else here can.

Regarding getting a dental check up, it's definitely a good idea to make sure you have no cavities or gum problems and that your teeth get a clean bill of health before you start orthodontic treatment.

Have you decided you are just getting the one consultation at this particular clinic? A lot of people here get a few consults with different orthodontists before they commit to one. You might get different prices and treatment plans depending on where you go.

Whereabouts in the UK are you? Us Brits are rapidly taking over the boards here lol

Thanks for replying! I have only got the one consultation in mind at the mo, i would like more but A) there is hardly any ortho's in my area (live in south yorkshire at the mo) that do anything other than metal braces and B) most places i can find are £100 for consultation :'(
