AMD-April 9th Update w/Pics-Page 2

#1 Post by amd »

Hi, I am a 42yr young femalewho has been waiting years to get my jaw fixed. I have a class III bite. I have searched this site for others who also have this however mine is a lot deeper than most. I am not overly concerned with how straight my teeth are but rather I want my top teeth behind my lower teeth. I saw an ortho 20years ago and I'm seeing her again now as I have the financing which I didn't have back then. I can't wait to get this started :D . I will be having metal braces with ortho surgery  approx 1 year into treatment and then another year with braces. The surgery will be upper jaw with a possible genioplasty. (I'm trying to remember everything).

A couple of questions: Does anyone out there have smart clip braces? How are they to clean? Do they hurt your mouth too? Anyone out there have super sensitive teeth and does it get worse during brace time? (I get frozen for cleanings!)

Thanks. AMD

Thanks for the Info

Thank you KK. (seems strange to be "talking" to someone on the other side of the world!) I Just had my final deep cleaning this week. Lots of fun :-} . I am brushing only w/sensodyne tp and flossing 3 times a day. I've been picking up stuff for cleaning with braces that people on this website have mentioned. I'm trying little things out to see what they're like before I have the braces. I am so paranoid about my teeth that good hygiene won't be much of an issue for me. My ortho has also requested I get my teeth cleaned every 2-3 months just to be safe. (I have periodontal probs as well- from my bite probs.)
I just can't wait until the braces are on!! I'm taking my 17 yr old daughter with me so she can photograph the event. I can't believe I'm actually getting braces after waiting since I was 16! I'm sooo excited  I'm sure for the first 2 weeks I'm probably going to be looking at the calendar and wondering just how long two years will be?!!

Thanks again. Wish me luck.

My OTT clean consists of using a whitening mouthrinse, the sensodyne whitening toothpaste on my old oral b electric. Then flossing with oral b superfloss, followed by brushing around my ligs and in gaps with the interdental brushes (I use a small and a large) ... plus several times a week I dip these in hydrogen peroxide. Then it's the tongue scrapper and I finish with listerine teeth defence with fluoride mouthwash ... not one I like, but requested by my ortho. My ortho (and perio) both told me it's not how often or how much you brush that counts, but how well you do the job.

My ortho gave me a box of disclosing tabs to use weekly for a few months, then monthly and now every so many months. You clean first, then chew one ... if you see red on any teeth or brackets, it means that area needs more attention. These have helped me get in a better cleaning routine!
Wow, your routine is much more thorough than mine

And I wonder where I can get disclosing tabs? That might be helpful for me.

What are you getting done? I take it you just started 2 months ago? How are the first couple of weeks? Do you know how to post photos? I've got the photos - just don't know how to upload them.

Wow, can't believe a month has passed already. I had my first "adjustment" today. The wire was removed, last two molars on top and bottom had brackets put on and the same wire back on and new ligs. I picked magenta this time.
The process wasn't too bad. My teeth felt weird when the wire was out. I kept trying to make sure that I didn't touch them with my tongue. It actually felt really good to have the wire put back on. The only thing different is that I have 3 wire ties on the bottom and 2 on the top. I find my teeth move much quicker with those on.

There's hardly any progress on the bottom so I'm not posting pics of that yet. Maybe next time. I feel like a chipmunk right now. Those back bracket make me feel like I've been sucking a lemon! Everyone commented on how meticulous my brushing has been so that's good. Possible surgery date is set for Nov/Dec. Ortho said 9 months at the very soonest. Cross your fingers.

That's it for now.

Hi amd

Your teeth look great and you have had amazing movement in a month. I'm also 42 and my eldest daughter will be 17 soon too. It feels good to me to be finally doing something for myself, my only regret is that I didn't do it years ago.

I've been sentenced to 2 years also, with time off for good behaviour it might be 18 months.

Good luck with the braces and the surgery. From the look of things your teeth are very co-operative.

Regards

I am 46 and have a 14 year old daughter and 17 yr old son both of whom will need ortho work although not as extensive as mine will be. Upper and lower surgery. I waited all these years since first seeing an ortho at age 20 to finally do something for me. I promised my children they will have their teeth fixed by the time they turn 20.
My braces go on this coming Tuesday. I will be taking notes and stocking up on "cleaning supplies" There is alot of great info and helpful hints. AMD your braces look great, it is so wonderful to see the progress.
I think that it will be neat to see how we all progress over the next two years.

When I read your entry about having the archwire taken out and it felt funny it brought back vivid memories of my orthodontic experience. Without the archwire the brackets felt very foreign and out of place but with the archwire in place I liked the feeling that everything was connected and tight. (With the exception of a new archwire which took several days to get over the soreness.)

good luck on your ortho journey and look forward to following your progress.

Hi amd,
That is quite a nice change inyour top teeth already. Hope they keep moving easily along. I have read stories about the disclosing tablets. Apparently the color is really a devil to get cleaned away from your tongue and other areas, and some have said to start with half a tablet if you try them. I have not yet. Continued good luck with your braces experience. I will be following your story.
It's all in how you see yourself!

Well... This week will be my next adjustment #2 and almost 3 months since the braces went on.

Other than some weird discolouration everything is fine. I'm posting pictures. My tooth colour in these pics...well...it's gross. I have an appointment for a cleaning this week too so I'm hoping to find out what is going on with the colour of my teeth.

blue composite

#15 Post by rosiepoo »

hi amd.

i noticed how u have blue composite on your back molars. i have just recently been fitted with bands on my molars, i am not fully braced just yet. but because i have a crossbite part of the band was hitting against my teeth so the dr put on some blue composite... it is terrible to say the least to eat. my bite is awkward, i dont know how to chew my food. i just had this done so i figure it'll take a couple of days.

can you feel your bite different with your composite??
