Age 27 - Braces for the 1st Time - Yikes!??

#1 Post by rcbeep »

Hello everyone! Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself as a newbie to the group. I must start by saying this website... I love it! It has really helped me get past my emotional first day of braces. I have had them on since January 6th, and it is much better. I am getting used to everything and I can finally eat mostly normal foods again. I miss not being able to chew gum the most!!!!!

My problem: WHEN am I going to start seeing some movement? I am impatient, already. Maybe I just want to see some changes, to know that it is all worth it!!! How long before any of you started to see some sort of changes?

Hopefully I will have the chance to talk to some of you! Good luck with everything!!

Welcome Rcbeep. If you have had any discomfort at all (concerning your teeth), then you have had movement. If you can compare before brace pictures to pictures taken today, you would probably see some difference. It is amazing - we don't think much is happening, when in actually it is. Good luck to you on your brace journey.

Today is my first day in braces and I am already impatient. I swear I will never eat normally again and now I will be spending most of my days and nights brushing my teeth. Does this get easier?

Congratulations TeenQueen and Welcome! I haven't even had mine a month and it is getting easier. I am not back to normal but much better. Brushing - I think I eat less so I won't have to brush as often... no snacking. Funny way to lose weight, but it works. How long for you???

Queen...it will. You will get used to it after the first month. To be perfectly honest, after the second or third month, you might start to eat foods that are on your list of "no-nos".

Just think of how your teeth will look and feel after the braces are taken off.

I started to smile with my teeth a lot more than I ever did in my life.

Hey Beep. I'm 27 also...lol
You might start to see changes within another month or two.

Like I said to Queen, just imagine how your teeth will look and feel once youre finished.

Jinxey - it is nice to talk to others my age that are going thru the same thing! I never realized there were so many adults out there with braces and so forth.

I have noticed a few changes in the past couple of day - really excited to see how things will look in a couple of months!!

So, your plan is to get them off in July???? I am jealous! Good luck and keep us posted!

28 when I had braces, 29 now. Probably 30 when I get them off lol.

I did have some form of upper removable braces when I was about 13/14, but at that age it didn't stay in long enough. Teenagers should be forced to wear fixed braces, the temptation to take out removable braces and hide them away under your bed, never to be seen again, is too great, for teenagers with raging hormones and image conscious worries.

Results

#9 Post by HollyDontSpend »

I started to see results after about 2 weeks. I could feel my teeth "crunching" around. That's what it felt like to me as they moved slowly out of their crowded position. I was constantly checking the first few days, but I think I was just more interested in how they worked. So I was constantly checking Archwired and the Damon website to learn more about how braces work. Guess I have always been curious. I also spent a lot of time brushing at first as I learned how to wield my Sonicare around the brackets, but now I am used to it. However, the toothbrush has a timer that I use, so it still feels like I am constantly brushing. I do agree, I eat less because I hate having to brush so much. Kind of an end to snacking. HA! Good luck everyone.

I find it funny how I have done the same thing... checking websites to learn more about how braces work. I wonder how many of us do that!?!? My husband makes fun of me sometimes!! All in fun!

So, would you recommend a Sonicare? I have only heard good things and am considering getting one.

Sonicare good

Oh sure I would recomment one. I didn't buy the Elite because the cheaper one has a kind of saw-tooth style that fits around the braces better. It feels weird the first time you use it. It actually tickled a lot to me. But it's great and I've kept it off the charger for as long as 4 days and didn't have any problems. Have fun looking online!
