Well I didnt really tell much about myself, I wasn't really sure what to post actually! I'm 26 and this is my first time to be going into braces...only a little over a week to go! There is no turning back now! I have a front right tooth that sticks out pretty bad...the Ortho said its a '5' whatever that means, and most peoples bad buck tooth would be a 2 or 3 and mine is a 5. I take that to mean IM EXTRA SPECIAL
A bit about myself, I live in central Florida...but origionally from Missouri, but met my husband M.J. and moved to Florida. We have all of his family here. I work at a Title Insurance company and also am a Party Lite (candles and accessories) Consultant in all of my UN spare time! I love doing it though and hope to eventually figure out how to do it FULL TIME and quit my job but thats a gradual process! I LOVE animals although all I have is hermit crabs cause I live in an apartment...and they dont seem to like pets here very much.
Some of my lifes dreams are: own a white baby grand piano, have children and be able to stay home with them, throw lavish parties for no real reason at all (ha ha ha), own a Blue Subaru WRX, have a dog rescue as a side project (either beagles or boxers) and last but NOT least...I want to travel to the moon, or at least outer space (and I'm not kidding here!). Thats my biggest dream. I think in about 9 years I will be able to do that.
Okay thats about all for now...I hope to get to know more of you out there...I'd love some recomendations on what color ligatures I should get for my first go around in braces!

Nice of you to introduce yourself Tammy - Love your avatar by the way, it certainly catches your eye. Good luck with your ortho treatment, it won't be all plain sailing, but the end result will be more than worth it.
One of my central incisors (front teeth) was displaced a few mm's from the other, which made it protrude somewhat, so I know where you are coming from.

Hi! Say good bye to buckey! Ive had my metal on for 3 weeks now so Im not as "experienced" as some of the other folks around here, I just whine about ripped up cheeks and sore teeth
I have a silver wrx! Good choice of car I also have 903432345 animals (or at least it seems like it) so we have something in common! I also lived in florida (parents in palm beach, went to school at FSU) but recently moved to VA when I got married last year.

Hi Kaz and Dodger...
Im glad to meet you all, I hope to make some more friends on here...and we can all suffer together. Is it really that bad on cutting up your cheeks? Im very prone to canker sores so I'm a little nervous, but I somehow lived through my painful wisdom teeth...and getting them out...the pain after was NOTHING compared to before I had them yanked..so I think if I can do that, I can do ANYTHING. Do you all have silver braces? Thats what I'm getting...I'm thinking of having PURPLE ligatures as my first color, that or blue or pink, not sure yet. I'm really really indecisive. Hey Kaz...what kinda animals do you have? I only have hermit crabs since I'm in an apartment, but I cant wait to get outa here so I can have some REAL PETS! Nice to meet you all...keep in touch! Thanks for writing back:)

Here is my collection
Cooper: American Bulldog mix (my pretty boy!)
Rexie: Cane corso (which is an italian mastiff, small athletic non drooling rarebreed ancient mastiff!)
Bunnicula: Bunny!
Pachuco: Prairie dog (we call him chuch or chuchu!)
100 gallon fish tank with a southeast asian blackwater biotope.
I want a pygmy goat but school is interfering with my animal fund!
As for the cheek tearing, it was fine for the first week or two (that was more wanting to shoot myself in the head from tooth pain and not being able to eat a single thing). Once the tooth pain subsided and I started eating regular food, I had more chewing action going on, causing more rubbing of my brackets against my teeth. I pulled out the wax and that seems to help a lot. At night my cheeks also settle into the nooks and crannies in my metal brackets on my lower jaw and when I wake up in the morning and yawn or something, I rip my cheeks up again. I sleep with wax in now:)
I wish you luck! Oh, I also lost 5lbs over the last 3 weeks from lack of food. Thats a bonus, right?

Welcome
Welcome Tam Gotta love a fellow animal lover. Excepts cats, they're a waste of fur! No-no, I like all animal, just allergic to the feline. Bet again welcome, if you need to brag or vent, laugh or cry come back and visit often, there are some special people that participate in this forum.
Kaz....Bunnicula!!! My favorite book series. I'm partical to Howie(?) the dimwit wire-haired dachshund since I live with three minutures. But only one is a dimwit. My oldest (deaf Hannah) died about a year ago at almost 16 yrs old. I had the deaf, the blind and the dummy.
Simon - 10 r old blk/tan doxie...he's blind, but makes do as long as I don't more the furniture.
Bruno (Bruski) = 4 yr old blond. He's an over grown miniature at 15 lbs but he's my best buddy.
Gretchen - Christmas present this year. She's almost 9 mos. and tipped the scales this evening at 6 lbs. 6 oz. Swings aroud my house like a flying Wallenda (trapeze act). Last night I caught her AGAIN walking on my coffee table. I have yo make sure the chairs are pushed in or I may find her on my counter tops.

Hey Atta girl...
What do you think of having damon braces??? I'm wishing my dentist had those. I'm gona ask him today when I get my spacers put in but I'm afraid it might be too late for that to be an option!!!

hi TammyRose. I like my Damons. They are small (I have relatively small teeth compared to some other people), they do not use ligatures, and they stick out from the teeth a little, all of which makes it easy to clean your teeth. Swishing with water will get most stuff out - I find the area beside my first molars is the hardest to swish and remove stuff (my second molars are not braced). It didn't take me too long to get used to them. The doctor put Innovations on my first molars because they are all gold crowns - Innovations have a larger foot print, so more area to glue to the teeth. The Innovations have a hook on them that likes to dig into my cheeks, at times. I mentioned this to him Tuesday when I was there and he filled in the hooks with compound until I need them. Won't hurt to ask what kind of brackets they have available. Good luck.
Hey Atta girl
Well i just got back from getting the spacers and she said they only had the REGULAR silver and ceramics thats IT that they didnt order anything special. I see why they are on my insurance plan! Oh well thats okay, I have come to terms w/ having the regular silver ones:) I will take what I can get:) Thanks for the info though, but I guess I wont be able to get them. Its pretty bad when the lady at the orthodontist hasnt even HEARD of Damon brackets!!!!

Braces Wednesday
Getting mine on Wednesday! Really dreading the whole experience!!. The thought of 2 hours in a dental chair! I have a small mouth and its always been difficult for dentists. Plan on lots of chapstick before and after! Was given two pills to dry my mouth before appt. Is anyone familiar with this?
No, I never heard of taking something to dry the mouth before ortho visit. I have to say, I have a small mouth, too and it didn't take two hours. But, my teeth didn't offer too big a challenge, as they were only mildly crowded. (I have mostly other issues). Best wishes on the new braces going on....

I was also given a pill to dry my mouth before my appointment and it really didn't do much. I slobbered like mad anyway. Maybe two pills would have worked?
I also feel like I got very lucky with the "putting them on" part. I haven't heard anyone else mention getting theirs done this way, but my ortho did not place each bracket individually. He had a small tray that looked a bit like an invisalign tray or a fitted bleaching tray that was shaped like my teeth. My brackets were "placed" on this tray where he wanted them on my teeth and the glue went on the brackets, then the whole tray went into my mouth at once, then hold for a bit, then tray out with brackets staying in. Literally took no more than 5 minutes for the actual placement. (There was some extra time for rubbing gritty stuff on my teeth and all before the actual placement.) After hearing about people spending hours in the chair I feel SO lucky that he did mine this way.
