They're moving

#1 Post by canicula »

"My God! We're moving!!"

Sorry, just stealing a line from the Queen Flash Gordon soundtrack album there. I've had linguals on my upper incisors for 9 days now. Seems to be doing something :) There is now clear space between the right central and lateral incisors. The lateral is still set back behind the central tooth. Both lateral incisors are slightly loose as well. I think that there has been a small amount of movement on the left hand side as well. But that might be wishful thinking! I know it's very early days but it's good to see something happening.

My orthodontist thinks that he will be able to align the upper incisors, and the upper canines as well, by just using lingual brackets on the back of the incisors. That'd be good if possible but I'm not sure there will be room. The canines might need moved backwards to create some space I think. Maybe the force exerted by the wire on the lateral incisors will push the canines back as they move to their proper position. There is space for the canines to move back due to extractions done when I was a teenager for orthodontic treatment I never completed. Teenagers Eh?!

Still have to be very careful eating as I can't completely close my bite due to the lower incisors hitting the brackets bonded to the back of the upper front four. Omelettes, soup, beans, Weetabix , soft toast the order of the day. All good!

Speech with the linguals is mostly okay. I notice a difference with S sounds. Others say they don't. Maybe they're just being nice.

Cheers,

Ian

Had my first adjustment today. In the month since getting the linguals fitted my left lateral incisor has noticeably moved and is in a much better position :) A gap has also opened up between my right central and lateral incisors. This is not noticeable from the front as the right lateral is currently slightly behind the right central incisor.

My ortho tightened the wire today and also fitted an elastic between the central incisors to close a small gap between them. That was 5 hours ago. My teeth are a bit sore and tingly at present. Will probably be very sore tomorrow. The doc is confident that there is room to align the upper four incisors without having to move the canines back, which is good. His only concern is the rotation of the right central incisor which he says hasn't improved much in the last month. Early days though. It'll take as long as it takes.

My diet is more or less back to normal and can eat anything I like as long as I'm careful. Speech is okay as well. Next adjustment on 17th May.

Well the elastic worked. The gap was gone overnight!. My teeth, and also jaw generally, were very sore yesterday. But that's to be expected. Not too bad today.

Hopefully over the next few weeks the elastic and wire will start to correct the abnormal rotation of my right central incisor. The left lateral incisor has moved a lot and is in a much better position than it was 5 weeks ago.

I know I'm getting it a lot easier than most on this journey but it's good to see (and feel) things happening.
