My Braces Page

#1 Post by Kettu »

Hi! I'm 25 and I've soon had my upper jaw braces on for 3 months (lower ones are yet to come). I'm following my (sofar yet quite unnoticeable) progress on my webpage. http://users.utu.fi/lajhalm/hampaat/hampaat.html It's only in Finnish, but if you want, you can pop there to see the photos of my starting point, the braces (freshly with a nasty spring) and what curry does to white ligatures.

Good going, Kettu! I haven't seen too many personal experience based orthodontic sites in Finnish, not in such detail as yours, anyway. Nice! Have you been given an estimation on how long the process will take? To me it me seems like you don't have that much crookedness there, count out the front tooth. Keep up the spirits, your smile will be great!
Onnea matkaan! :) ("Good luck!")
Case: Impacted canines, crowding & crossbite.
Treatment: SARPE 2004/10/6, RPE 2004/9/28 - 2005/1/31, w-arch until 2005/11/22, impacted canines extracted 2005/5/18.
Braces on: top 2005/6/2, bottom 2005/8/30.
Braces off: 2008/6/9.
Retainers, phase one: expanding Hawley retainer 24/7, bonded retainers on top & bottom.
Retainers, phase two: Hawley on top, bonded both top & bottom, positioner for night time use.

The estimated time in braces is 12 to 14 months. I don't know when my ortho is planning to put the lower braces. Apparently there isn't enough of space for them yet.
Heh... perhaps my page is even a bit too detailed, as there's not much of change in the photos yet. But it's mainly for my own interest to be able to look then backwards how it all went.
I also attempted to compose a FAQ (there's a link from the photoblog) but that's also in Finnish. There really isn't much of info available on the topic in my language.
Tomorrow I'll go for a new adjustment again! :D

You're right, Kettu. I too tried to find orthodontics info in Finnish as I started my own journey - tough luck! There's next to nothing to be found about the subject on the internet. About adults in orthodontics: literally nothing! As if it's something non-existant! And yet we know there are more and more adults like us out there wearing braces. I think it's brave and generous of you to be a SPAM in that field :!: You will probably be helping more people than you now realize :)
BTW, as far as "too detailed" goes: I don't think you can share enough details about orthodontics. Everyone new to this finds any and all details - as tiny as they may be - useful and important, I'm sure.

12 to 14 months doesn't sound bad, does it? I'm looking into something between 2 and 3 years, I guess... Well, one year has already passed since my initial consultation and I'm not yet even braced!
Good luck with your tomorrow's adjustment!
