Any adults 50 or over with braces?
Since I am new to braces as an older adult - I am wondering if I am the oldest one to try this. Four children had braces and they are now enjoying making fun of me.
Hi Lindy,
You might be surprised at the number 50 plus members of the orthodontic wearers society. I am just shy of my 60th and will be getting my braces off in May. I have worn them since Nov 06. There were a couple of times I questioned my decision but now when I see how my teeth have moved and the likelihood of keeping my natural teeth for the rest of my lifetime I think it was a great decision.
What type of braces do you have? How long is the estimated treatment time?
Hope your ortho journey is a smooth one and look foward to following your progress.

It think it's so cool!
I'm not quite the same age (39, for real but holding forever haha). I think it's just so awesome when all ages are getting braces and making that improvement. I think it takes alot of guts... kudos to you all for doing it!
Nice to know I am not alone turning 60 with braces

Hi Lindy, I am only 47 (only lol!) but as I am having nice straight teeth for my 50th birthday celebrations I had to start early!! Also I agree with Rhonda, apart from the asthetics, straight teeth are easier to look after so chances are they'll be with us longer, saving us time, pain and money in the future - so there is another great reason to get braces. A friend of mine has spent as much in the last year on restorations as I will do for the whole of my braces journey. I have only had braces on for 3 months and can already clean in places that I have never been able to before!
My daughter has my husbands lovely teeth but my two boys inherited mine. They are all supportive but make fun of me - just youngsters way of making us feel more comfortable about things. I bet your kids are very proud of you.
Best of luck on your journey, you certainly are not alone!

hi there
another over 50 here ... 51 and just got braced up 2 weeks ago... getting the molar bands on next week !
I have had a deep overbite for many many years but its increasingly causing gum and palate problems and apart for the discomfort and limitations on eating ability , Icould lose my teeth if I dont get this done ..... so braces and surgery here I come .
I just wish I had been able to have it done years ago .... but NHS here wont do it until the probem has progressed to a degree really !!!
so . welcome to the club !

Hi Tazzle, I recall on another post you said you lived in the west midlands near wales! Well I do too! Wherabouts are you? I live near Ludlow.
I wasted my opportunity with the NHS as a teen. Braces then were commonly removable and so I removed em rather than get teased at school etc and my parents eventually gave up pleading with me to wear them. I am now paying £3500 for my mispent youth!!

Anyone 50 or over wearing a brace.
I will be 50 in July wearing a brace for the third time! I decided to take the plunge because last time i was left with two large gaps at either side of my mouth and my 7 year old started to notice them and kept mentioning it. This time i refuse to take my braces off until i am happy with my teeth!
