Hi everyone, I can't believe I found this website - it's exactly what I need!
I'm not new to braces, I had them for 2 years between the ages of 16 and 18 but unfortunately my teeth have moved back so I need them again - although this time I have to pay for it
I have pics of before and after last time so i'll upload them soon (as soon as I figure out how to work my scanner )...i'll also post a pic of what they look like now. They're nowhere near as bad as when I was younger but now i've had perfection I want it back!
I will be going for an x-ray next week and then he will refer me to the ortho...wish me luck!
Can't believe there was someone else from Guernsey - it's such a small island that I probably know her! It is a beautiful place but there's not much to do for fun!
Well, i'm one step closer to bracedom - went for a scale and polish today (and now my teeth feel like they're going to fall out). Unfortunately, she found a hole so it's another filling for me which sucks because the anaesthetic from the last one took 4 and a half hours to wear off!!
So it's a filling tomorrow and my x-ray on wednesday which means he will refer me to the orthodontist! I can't believe it's finally happening!

So I had my x-ray today which was a lot more pleasant than I remember them being. I stood there biting on this bit of plastic while a machine moved round my head!
He showed me the x-rays and said that I may need to have a top wisdom tooth removed (it's already half way through) and apparently it's easier than a filling Still don't want teeth out though! I also have two wisdom teeth on the bottom that are lying sideways but apparently they shouldn't move or cause any problems.
He's writing my letter of referral today so I should hear from the ortho within the next two weeks. I'm so excited it's untrue!!!
Pics soon, I promise!

Hi there and welcome! I have a friend from Guernsey and she keeps on telling me to drop by next time she goes home.
I had a wisdom tooth removed and for me it wasn't as easy lol. I was completely swollen for about a week and couldn't eat at all It was the worst experience ever, but that doesn't meat that it won't be easy for you!!
I have a question though..... did they tell you why your teeth started moving again?
I had 2 wisdom teeth removed in October (at age 40!) and I wish I could tell you it is a piece of cake Both of these wisdom teeth had broken through the gum and were not impacted. The procedure took all of 5 minutes (I refused all sedation and went for local freezing only). The recovery is what really got to me! It took almost a month for me to heal and I had to use a syringe to clean the area all the time and to prevent dry socket. My oral surgeon told me that the older you are, the longer the recovery time and he was right! In any case, you need to have this done so stay strong and just do it!
Thanks for the info guys - I actually had an impacted wisdom tooth out 6 years ago and I can honestly say it was the worst thing EVER. I can relate to you ckrobyn about the recovery - that was definitely the worst part...I don't think my face has ever been that swollen!
To answer your question chrissy, my teeth started moving again because I didn't wear my retainer - simple as that. Man, i'm kicking myself now!!! What's your friends name? It's such a small island I might know her! And she's right, you should drop by. It's only an hour from Gatwick!

Bad girl for not wearing retainers!! lol I plan on listening to whatever my ortho tells me, or else it will be such a waste of my suffering hehe .....
My friend is about 26 now and her name is Rachel. She has spent last 6 years in London and France though. An hour from Gatwick, that doesn't sound bad at all..... I live 15 min away from Gatwick so it would be a short journey .

I would advise listening to anything your ortho says because you'll end up like me otherwise! Although, I was told I only had to wear them for 6 months
Well next time she plans on coming back here you should come too! I guarantee you'll be bored within a week if you don't like the beach!

So last night I had a little bit of a cry. I'm so excited about my braces but I was suffering a bit of low self-esteem and was worried about looking hideous. Stupid, I know as I've had them before and it was fine. Has anyone else had these feelings?

I had to chuckle when I saw your posting. I'm getting braces on tomorrow, and was actually thinking, okay, when I get home I go up to my studio, lay down on the couch and have a little cry. Not sure why--maybe just relief that I'm finally getting started on this.
I am 48 hours away from being "braced" and I have waited for this day for over 20 years........I still want to cry!!!!! I think my tears will be those of joy for finally having the courage to get this done
Thanks for the understanding and words of encouragement guys
Also...I've just had a phonecall from the orthodontist.
I'm going for my consultation on 22nd July!!! I can't believe it! She said I was very fortunate because there had been a cancellation and there is usually a 6-8 week waiting list!!
I WANT TO DANCE!!!
