metalmonkey saying hello!

#1 Post by metalmonkey »

Hi Guys,

Found you by the power of google. My name is Milly, a London based soon to be braces wearer. I am 27 and those of you into you Chinese signs will know where my username comes from

I had my consultation yesterday and really liked the dentist so have bitten the bullet and paid my deposit. I am going for the InVu ceramic brace at a cost of £3300. I did briefly consider the Incognito option because the lingual brace not being seen is a huge plus but not only is it supremely expensive at £6000, I have also been researching it and it seems it is not the most comfortable of options.

My first 'poper' appointment is in 2wks and I am quite excited. I do have concerns though -

Will I have disgusting breath for the next 14-18months what with not being able to floss

Will I look ridiculous wearing braces at my age?

I work in a looks based industry and I am so worried that it will affect my income. Please tell me I am being stupid!

Will I need to stop eating all my fave foods? I eat a lot of meat in my diet and can't imagine being able to with braces (especially if I can't floss)?

Hi! Welcome to AW! I'm so glad that you found us.

Congrats on starting your braces journey! It's a great thing that you're doing for yourself.

You can definitely floss with braces. It takes a little longer, but once you get the hang of it it goes quicker. You just have to pass the floss under your wire then floss. Your ortho will no doubt give you a floss aid and some tips. You can also order some crest glide floss from dentakit.com which is awesome.

Personally, I have had nothing but fantastic responses to my braces. I think they look great and don't hesitate to flash them to others in a great big smile. People are just really happy for me. They really don't stand out like we think think they will, they blend right in with all your other wonderful features. I think it's more in the attitude, so my recommendation is to be proud and make them what you want, be happy for yourself and let others be happy for you!

You will be able to eat just about anything. For some things, like meats, you just have to cut it up in small pieces. Once you get past your first few weeks and your body has time to adjust, you'll find yourself eating all your favorite foods. The only foods I gave up were gum, caramels and like, popcorn, sunflower seeds and hard nuts. Don't worry, you'll be eating just fine!
